How to manage PDTs at scale with Looker’s new Apache Airflow and Cloud Composer integrationsTutorial
Looker persistent derived tables (PDTs) provide the ultimate data modeling flexibility. They put robust data transformation capability into the hands of analysts and data modelers by enabling them to use LookML to write materialized query results back to the database. This means performant reporting based on complex analytical patterns behind the scenes (think cohorting, retention, user behavior patterns, etc.) can be in the hands of users faster. However, as our customers have leaned into the magic of PDTs, some have run into challenges with scalability. Monitoring and managing PDTs that refresh on varying schedules becomes exponentially more complex as the number of PDTs grows. As a solution to this, we are thrilled to share that we have released a new integration with Apache Airflow that is now also available in Cloud Composer, Google’s managed workflow orchestration service built on Apache Airflow. This new integration provides a pathway for our customers to scale their PDT usage th

Product Announcement: Introducing New API endpoints for PDT ManagementProduct Announcement
We’re excited to share that we now have three new API endpoints available for PDT management starting with Looker version 22.2. These new API endpoints provide finer-grained control over PDT management and pave the way for powerful integrations with workflow orchestration tools. With these new endpoints, developers can use the API (or API Explorer) to: Force a full rebuild of an incremental PDT, either on-demand or on a schedule Start a PDT build without running a query against it or waiting for the Regenerator to kick off a build the next time the table is triggered Build a PDT that takes longer than an hour to materialize in development mode (PDTs that take longer than an hour to build cannot be built in an Explore) This new functionality is gated behind the “develop” permission, so a user would need to have this permission in order to use the API for PDT management. Getting startedIn order to manage PDTs via the API, a toggle called Enable PDT API Control needs to be enabled in t

On March 15, 2022, the new GitHub protocol will become permanent (more information here). How will Looker handle the change? Looker is actively working on this change. We will provide a mechanism to regenerate key-pairs well in advance of the GitHub protocol becoming permanent on March 15, 2022. Further information will be announced in our regular product communication channels (release docs, in-app notifications) shortly. How do I know if I’m using SSH or HTTPS?You can check to see how your project is connected to git by running a Git connection test from the git action panel to see your remote repository URL.
