Medaxion is looking for an experienced Looker developer to join our small Analytics team and to help turn our Analytics offerings into a valuable and irresistible part of Medaxion’s portfolio.
About you
You have at least 3 years of full-time Looker experience. You are fluent in Looker and have practical experience with Looker’s approach to BI. You have recent experience designing, developing, and maintaining models, derived tables, access filters, Looks and Dashboards. You are SQL-savvy when it comes to creating a derived table or troubleshooting an under-performing or non-performing query. You understand EAV relationships in data, the challenges with embeds, and have strong familiarity with the Looker API as a middleware service layer.
You are skilled at communicating with customers, from clerk to clinician to chief, as you work to fulfill their requests. You are consultative in your approach, able to anticipate issues with their requests (performance, reliability, efficacy), you are empowered to suggest alternative approaches, and you derive satisfaction from delivering transformative informatics and from stirring the data-culture stew.
As you become familiar with our Looker infrastructure and healthcare domain it serves, you will be challenged to improve and extend it and to suggest new architectures, processes, and products. Eventually, you direct the path leading to those improvements.
You enjoy working in a relatively informal environment but you appreciate the value of adhering to processes around code review, code commits/releases, and protecting personal health information.
You are comfortable with a salary of $100k+, depending on your prior experience. Our salaries are competitive within the industry.
You live in the Eastern or Central U.S. time zones.
Even sweeter for us would be that you’re a Certified LookML Developer, have good knowledge of HIPAA rules and their implications, have familiarity with ETL processes, and are comfortable and efficient with remote work.

Our technology
Our Looker implementation is based upon a MemSQL/SingleStore database populated by an ETL process that continuously runs against dozens of our customers’ MySQL schemas with a cotenancy lag time under 30 seconds from the transactional sources.

Although the staff you will be working with most closely are based in Chapel Hill, this can be primarily or completely a remote position.
