Can I temporarily stop or pause a scheduled look or dashboard from going out?Knowledge Drop

Last Tested: Oct 2, 2020 Not natively in the product, but there is a feature request.Basic WorkaroundIn order to stop a scheduled look or dashboard, the user has to delete it entirely from the schedules tab in the admin pane. They would then need to recreate the schedule when they want it back.Alternative Basic WorkaroundThrough the update_schedule_plan() endpoint, we can set the "enabled'"parameter to "false". This disables the schedule, without fully deleting it. It tells Looker to skip over any possible runs for this schedule - the only nuance with this method is that if we did skip over any runs while it was disabled, when we enable this again it will run once (no matter how many skipped runs happen) right away.Other WorkaroundIf you host your own instance, you can restart looker with startup flag options to stop schedules ---scheduler-threads=0 will disable the scheduler -BUT once you bring it back, the backlogged schedules will need to runAnother workaround we can try is using a

Last tested: Aug 16, 2019 Short Answer: No.For custom filters: When you use custom filters in the explore and save it as a Look, we can't edit the custom filter on the Look. Even so the custom filter is not a dynamic filter and the user didn't really need to know what is being filtered. We can't hide the custom filter in Looks, there is a feature request you can vote for on our feedback system: Hide the filter on the look.A workaround is to add the look to a dashboard, and then the custom filter would be automatically hidden.Regular (non-custom) Look filters will also not appear on the dashboard unless the dashboard is edited to add them. Git Error -- Pull Production Failed Failed: Checkout conflict with filesKnowledge Drop

Last tested: May 20, 2019 This error occurs when we try to pull from production while uncommitted changes are in the local dev branch. As a result, git rejects the pull request altogether. Last tested: Sep 30, 2019 Yes!On Dashboard Next, when a dashboard is in edit mode, you can hide a title by clicking Hide title in the tile’s three-dot menu.On Legacy Dashboards you can do this by clicking the eye icon next to the title of a tile while editing the dashboard.But for single value vizualization tiles, you can only do this via the edit tab of the visualization - there's a "Show title" toggle. Can I use `hidden` on a join?Knowledge Drop

Last Tested: Mar 5, 2021 No, you can use hidden only at the explore and field level (documentation).BUT, there are workarounds. Method 1: use fields: [] instead on the join (documentation). This will effectively do the same thing as hidden would because it tells Looker to not bring any fields into the explore. Last tested: Sep 7, 2019 Say you want to filter a column by multiple values in a "sub column", i.e you have a column order id's and a column product id's, and you want to filter for order id's that contain product id A AND product id B.The issue: You can't use a custom filter because that filter is a row based filter and won't account for multiple row values of product id for one value of order id.The bad solution: You can use a PDT to filter on product id A then filter on product id B in the explore (or in a derived table with the filter for A as a sub select)The better solution: A group concatenation aggregate function! How this works: The aggregate function works like any other function and will concat values based on the grouping. Last tested: Apr 2, 2020 Some users enforce strict policies on their commits from their remote git provider. These sometimes come in the form of pre-commit or pre-receive hooks. These are essentially scripts that git executes before or after an event, like a commit, or a push, that check things such as the length of the commit, the domain the commit is coming from, specified naming conventions needed, and so on. What happens?if a commit or push made through Looker doesn't pass the hook's rules, you'll see an error like this: What does this mean?This commit or deploy is essentially stuck in limbo - Looker thought it was ok, but the remote repository disagreed and sent it back. If we can figure out what is specified in the hook's rules, we might just be able to make a small change, revalidate LookML and make new commit with a message that fits the bill. Why don’t my table calculations have totals?Knowledge Drop

Last Tested: Feb 14, 2019As of version 6.2, there are now Totals on Table Calcs in most situations. Note that not all table calcs have totals and also note that some table calc totals may show as incorrect or "unexpected". This goes back to the overarching discussion of Totals are not Totals.Prior to 6.2, this is expected behavior. The Table Calc columns will not have Totals since table calcs are calculated after the SQL query finishes.ex.A workaround for this case is to create a second table calculation that sums up the original one. For further reference on the default behavior, see the logic in Docs.There are a couple ways to visualize a specific row from the results table: Specific Row Value with YesNoFor example, to always show the last value in a column, use:row()-count(${dimension_name})=0 This will only be Yes for the last value. Can LookML dashboards be moved to another folder?Knowledge Drop

There is this product feedback to allow functionality to move them out of the LookML dashboard folder so that they can live in other folders.As a workaround, when viewing a LookML dashboard, we can click "Copy from LookML into a folder" (documentation) from the gear menu. We created an explore, in which we have the dimension brand, we pivot on status and have the measure count and now we want to find the brands with the highest count for each status. So how do we get from this: To This: So for this we can use two nice table calculations. The first one is really obvious. We are going to use the rank function on the measure.rank(${orders.count},${orders.count}Now we got the rank in each pivot, but we don't get them to get displayed in the right order. So we need a second one to achieve this.
