How can I see the progress of a PDT that's building in dev mode since they don't show up in the PDT panel?Knowledge Drop

Last tested: Jan 14, 2019 There's no way to do this from Looker right now. You can potentially see it on your DB, or by selecting the Show Processes option in SQL Runner's cog menu next to the connection which should show rebuilds both in dev and prod.In order to identify dev mode PDT builds (i.e. which user kicked off a rebuild), you can look at the comments in the statement which was sent to the db. If you can access the db logs, that would have a user id. This content is subject to limited support.

Can we use multiple OUs in LDAP?Knowledge Drop

Last tested: Sep 18, 2019 OU stands for Organizational Unit, which is part of the LDAP structure.When you set up LDAP, you specify a Base DN (distinguished name). You can specify this as the root of your directory, rather than putting an OU. That way we'll look at the top of the structure and include all OUs. This content is subject to limited support.

Why am I seeing 'Sql Error: Connection property 'User' is required' when importing a public look to Google Sheets?Knowledge Drop

Last tested: Apr 20, 2018 This is likely happening because user attributes are at play (i.e. look uses parametrized connection), which do not work with public looks. This is because there is no "public" user attribute for the look to apply, so we cannot pass a value here.For a parameterized connection, the workaround is to make a new connection with a hardcoded UA value. How do I prevent embed users from accessing the global Shared folder?Knowledge Drop

Last tested: Jul 9, 2020To prevent embed users from accessing the global shared folder (not their group shared folder) you can manage access on the Shared folder to only grant access to non-embed users. To do this, you can create a new group, i.e. "Users with Access to Shared folder" and add all non-embed users to it. In Admin --> Content Access, you can then manage access on the Shared folder and add this new, non-embed user group to it. This content is subject to limited support.

What is the difference between Tile and Single Column PDF?Knowledge Drop

It takes a picture of your current dashboard.Single Column PDF is an extra option that you can choose that makes each tile full width.From Docs:Optionally, click the Single Column PDF if you want the PDF to show the dashboard tiles in a single vertical column. Can I control the default log creation and rotation?Knowledge Drop

Last tested: Mar 13, 2020 By default, for Looker-hosted instances, Looker keeps one running log, at looker/log/looker.log. Every day, it cuts off that log and saves it as a new file with the date in the filename. Then after a week, a script zips up those logs.If you host your own instance, then there is an option in the Admin panel to change the frequency of this log rotation. Last tested: Sep 28, 2020 The ProblemI gave my user permission to the see System Activity and they have permission to schedule Looks, so why can't they send System Activity data?A SolutionThe user has the see_system_activity permission, but the system_activity model set was not included in the user's model set.This role allows the user to see the System Activity model, but none of the permissions listed apply to the user's access to the System Activity model. How is the "Estimated Time" for a query calculated?Knowledge Drop

Last tested: Oct 2020 Looker uses the time it took to run that query last time to predict estimated time. However, it uses the query parameters to determine this, not the SQL, so if you drastically change a LookML definition the estimate may be wrong.If the query hasn't been run before, Looker does not show an estimate.
