Is there any way to set up a tunnel with a looker user on the tunnel server that requires a password?Knowledge Drop

Last tested: Jun 13, 2018 No.We don't support that because Looker will automatically re-establish the tunnel if it fails and nobody will be there to enter the password. Is it possible to parameterize the "from" address for a scheduled email?Knowledge Drop

Last tested: Mar 16, 2018 No. It is not possible to change the sender of scheduled emails for default SMTP.The only thing that controls the "from" address in Looker is the SMTP server. Is there any way to see who made changes to a UDD?Knowledge Drop

Last tested: Dec 26, 2017 This is currently a feature request! Plus one the request in Pendo here.If you have access to Looker's logs, you can try looking for this in the logs. If you grep for UPDATE and then for = X where X is the dashboard ID, then you may find lines that show when the dashboard was changed. Of course, you'd have to do this across each day's logs. Network Latency across countriesKnowledge Drop

Last tested: Dec 28, 2020 Question: I'm in a different country (or part of the country) than my Looker server, will I suffer from network latency?Answer: Not really. Network latency should add no more than 1s, and that's the worst case scenario where you're on the opposite side of the world from your Looker server.Show me the data: Here are load times for the license server status from various parts of the world. The license server is in Virginia. The worst is Sydney at about 1 second. Tokyo is next at 760ms. San Francisco is about 300, Dublin 360, Sau Paulo 650.I want to move my Looker instance to another country! Sure! Is it possible to reset a user's development branch to production via the API?Knowledge Drop

How do I download an .iqy file?Knowledge Drop

Last tested: Mar 30, 2018 It's only possible to download an iqy file on a Look with Public Access turned on.Turn on Public Access for the Look as specified in this doc. Can you have 2 dashboards with the same name?Knowledge Drop

Last tested: May 25, 2017 You cannot have two dashboards with the same name in the same space.If you try with UDDs, the 2nd version will have (Copy) at the end of the name.If you try with LookML dashboards, you get a validator error and cannot commit the new dashboard. Can I edit a commit message after it's been committed?Knowledge Drop

How do I change the user that appears on the Pull Request emails?Knowledge Drop

Last tested: Sep 14, 2020 If you're connecting via HTTPS, this will be tied to the credentials entered for that connection. Either reset the Git connection with different credentials or take advantage of user attributes to allow multiple credentials.If you're connecting via SSH, the user on the pull request emails will be the user that initially put the deploy key into the repo from Looker. It's a repo side user, not a Looker user. This post has more context on why our PR system works that way.So, to change that user, you'll need to delete the deploy key on the repo side, then reset the Git connection in Looker. The user that puts in the deploy key will be the user that shows up on those emails. This content is subject to limited support.

Last tested: Mar 25, 2019 The ProblemIn MySQL, you can write a measure which applies arithmetic between a measure and dimension.measure: bad_measure {type: numbersql: ${measure} * ${dimension} ;;} In Redshift (and most other databases), the same measure throws an error: ERROR: column must appear in the GROUP BY clause or be used in an aggregate function . Why isn't every dialect as cool as MySQL?The ReasoningMySQL is not the cool one here. MySQL makes some really weird assumptions about grouping. Take for example this query which selects all the "years" in my video game database. Year isn't a primary key, and we aren't grouping by year, so we see several duplicates. This seems expected.The problem arises when we also select a COUNT(*) without any grouping. As expected, in this query we get back one row with the full count of records. But we also see the "year" here as well, with a random value chosen. Most databases would have errored here instead of showing us a year.While this may se

Why are my timestamps being converted twice? / Multiple timezone conversionKnowledge Drop

Last tested; May 31, 2018 You're most likely seeing this because we're referencing a date/time field inside another date/time field. For example, say we have the following:dimension_group: created {type: timetimeframes:[date, year, month, quarter, raw]sql: ${TABLE}.created_at ;;} dimension: bad_date {type: date_timesql: date_add(${created_date},1) ;;} If we select the bad_date dimension, we will see multiple timezone conversions applied in the SQL.Instead, we should use the _raw timeframe like so: dimension: good_date {type: date_timesql: date_add(${created_raw},1) ;;} Which correctly generates only one conversion: This content is subject to limited support.
