Why is the field picker missing or empty?Knowledge Drop

Last tested: Feb 4, 2018 Case 1: Empty If the field picker is empty, that means that no fields are coming through. The problem is probably at the LookML level.Check for an aggressively limiting fields parameter on the explore, like fields: [] . If fields doesn't exist on the explore, then all fields should come through. If the explore uses extends, make sure it also uses view_name and from as in docs.Case 2: GoneIf the field picker is gone, then there may be a UI problem.The field picker can be collapsed- check for a plus sign in the top left. Make sure you're actually on an explore page, not a Look. This could be browser extension trouble. Try opening the explore in an incognito window.The server may be throwing an error, which would show up in the network and/or javaScript console in the browserCheck the console in the browser (cmd+option+J on Mac) or (CTL+Shift+J on Windows/Linux) This content is subject to limited support.

Can we use multiple OUs in LDAP?Knowledge Drop

Last tested: Sep 18, 2019 OU stands for Organizational Unit, which is part of the LDAP structure.When you set up LDAP, you specify a Base DN (distinguished name). (2 factor auth token required?) How do I check a github repo to view recent changes to a file?Knowledge Drop

Last tested: Sep 14, 2020 Github's UI makes this pretty easy, and they have an article on it.Basically, you want to go to the repo, click on the file in question, and then select "Blame" or "History.""Blame" will show you the changes made on a line-by-line basis, whereas "History" will show you a timeline of changes. Does Looker require access to the scratch schema to write ephemeral derived tables?Knowledge Drop

How to group without case sensitivityKnowledge Drop

For example, 'shorts' and 'Shorts' are being treated as two different rows.A SolutionThese results are literally different records in the database. So if you want to coerce them to be the same, you'll need to edit the SQL of the field. One example is to convert the field to lowercase using the LOWER function:dimension: item_name {type: stringsql: LOWER(${TABLE}.item_name) ;;} The actual function may differ depending on your database. This feature (a 3rd party feature by Pendo) provides helpful guides that walk you through parts of the product, introduce webinars, etc.Why aren't all my users seeing it?Pendo administrators generally ramp up the guides, starting by targeting a random 0.5% of all Looker users, and increase them over time. For major announcements, like chat support on holiday, the guides will be shown to all users that qualify ( in that example, all admins and developers).Can I turn it off?Yes, an admin can turn it off in the Admin Panel. Why am I seeing so many dates with null values?Knowledge Drop

Last tested: May 13, 2020 You might have dimension-fill on. Click the gear icon next to the dimension name in the result set and click "Remove filled in dates." Is there any way to set up a tunnel with a looker user on the tunnel server that requires a password?Knowledge Drop

Last tested: Jun 13, 2018 No.We don't support that because Looker will automatically re-establish the tunnel if it fails and nobody will be there to enter the password. Is it possible to parameterize the "from" address for a scheduled email?Knowledge Drop

Last tested: Mar 16, 2018 No. It is not possible to change the sender of scheduled emails for default SMTP.The only thing that controls the "from" address in Looker is the SMTP server. If you grep for UPDATE and then for = X where X is the dashboard ID, then you may find lines that show when the dashboard was changed. Of course, you'd have to do this across each day's logs. Network Latency across countriesKnowledge Drop

Last tested: Dec 28, 2020 Question: I'm in a different country (or part of the country) than my Looker server, will I suffer from network latency?Answer: Not really. Network latency should add no more than 1s, and that's the worst case scenario where you're on the opposite side of the world from your Looker server.Show me the data: Here are load times for the license server status from various parts of the world. The license server is in Virginia. The worst is Sydney at about 1 second. Tokyo is next at 760ms. San Francisco is about 300, Dublin 360, Sau Paulo 650.I want to move my Looker instance to another country! Sure! Failed to save options: You are saving SMTP settings too often.Knowledge Drop

Last tested: Jan 15, 2021 Solution: As the error says, just wait a little bit. You're allowed to run 5 requests every 5 minutes:Reason: The SMTP page can be used maliciously as a port scanner, so we decided to limit the frequency with which users can edit that info. Can I use two factor (2FA) with [SAML/LDAP/Google Auth]?Knowledge Drop

Last tested: Jan 18, 2018 Two-factor authentication in Looker only impacts email-password logins. It does not have an effect on authentication via LDAP, SAML, or Google Auth credentials. For instance, if Google Auth is enabled, 2fa would not be applied. However, for anyone using the alternate login screen to log in, the 2fa would apply for them as that is always email/password.If a user does not have a role with login_special_email, then the option to reset their 2FA won't appear when that user is edited. Does project import pull from prod or dev?Knowledge Drop

Last tested: Jul 18, 2018 Local project import should pull from whatever mode you're in. So, if you're in dev mode, it'll pull from the dev version of the code. And when you're in prod, it'll pull from prod.If you want to always pull from prod, or from a static version, use Remote Project Import instead.Note: If you lack model permissions to a project, then we create a clone of production for you to use while you're in dev mode. This can get out of date! In this case, it is recommended to use Remote Project Import instead. (Though it does not keep you up to date, at least you can specify a SHA.) Why are my Two Factor (2FA) codes not being accepted?Knowledge Drop

Last tested: Jan 18, 2018 This is most commonly caused by the time on your phone and the time on Looker being out of sync. Try changing your phone time to **Automatic** or increasing the Drift time in the Looker 2FA panel.
