What causes duplicate explores in the explore menu?Knowledge Drop

Last tested: Oct 29, 2019 One cause is including a model file in a view file. This is sometimes done in an NDT view file. Then when another model is added which includes this NDT view file, all of the explores from the original model file will show up in both models!One way around this is to use a separate explore file, and another is to not include the NDT view file in the new model file. This content is subject to limited support.

Last tested: Nov 4, 2019 This is a change made in Chrome version 80. Looker has made the necessary change to cookies on our end, however, we work with some vendors, such as Doubleclick, that have not made the change yet.The last Looker version that does NOT have the necessary change to our cookies is 6.24.6. Anything after that (6.24.7+, 7.x) should have the fix.Instances started with the no-ssl flag may not set the necessary cookie directives. If self-hosted customers are using this flag to do ssl termination at their load balancer, they should instead use the ssl-provided-externally-by flag. We can either use 2 columns or combine them.Create a "position" column to get the length of the string before the value we want. Last tested: Mar 15, 2021 In general there is no way to prioritize queries or manage the query queue. Queries get queued according to the per user query limit and the max connections.If we are looking to prioritize PDT builds on the database, we can use PDT override to specify a different database user for PDT builds. This is specific to query management on the database (i.e. by splitting per user query limits on the database) and not prioritization within Looker. It can seem simple, but it can be completed very easily with the right table calcs.A SolutionWe we create three main table calcs (they can be grouped into a single table calc if you like as well)First create the measure that you will be using. We will create the percentage of the whole. Basically, what against the entire columns value, what percentage is this row's value${view_name.field_name}/sum(${view_name.field_name}) We will define what percentile we want to cut. For this example, we will be cutting the bottom 10% so,percentile(${percentage_of_whole},0.1) Finally, we will ask a simple question,if(${percentage_of_whole}>${bot_10_percentile},yes,no)Then we will hide the no's and voila. Will an instance send out tons of schedules if it is started after being stopped for days?Knowledge Drop

Last tested: Jan 5, 2018 Looker will still only run 3 concurrent scheduled plans, but all schedules will run until they are done. This shouldn't be a problem. How do I prevent embed users from accessing the global Shared folder?Knowledge Drop

Last tested: Jul 9, 2020To prevent embed users from accessing the global shared folder (not their group shared folder) you can manage access on the Shared folder to only grant access to non-embed users. To do this, you can create a new group, i.e. "Users with Access to Shared folder" and add all non-embed users to it. Why am I seeing 'Sql Error: Connection property 'User' is required' when importing a public look to Google Sheets?Knowledge Drop

Last tested: Apr 20, 2018 This is likely happening because user attributes are at play (i.e. look uses parametrized connection), which do not work with public looks. Last tested: Sep 12, 2018 All Looker-hosted customers' logs will be in UTC. This is not determined by the location of the server, the Looker application timezone, etc., but by the timezone that the server is running on. For hosted instances, this will always be UTC, which will look like this:2018-07-24 01:06:20.626 +0000 [INFO|cc3f2|source] If you host your own instance, the timezone of your logs can be found in the last 5 digits of the log entry timestamp, for example:2018-07-24 01:06:20.626 -0700 [INFO|cc3f2|source] would be 7 hours behind UTC, which is PST. This content is subject to limited support.

Last tested: Dec 4, 2019 On a Look or dashboard tile, you may find the drill doesn't appear to exist. When you Explore From Here, you get a red error bar with the message: "A LookML model issue occurred.Variable not found "link". (In field "view1.order_count")"There can be two type of causes:No drill_fields defined one of the dimensions in the query is set to "can_filter: no",Say you have a custom drill on a field like this:measure: order_count {type: countlink: {label: "Show Top 10"url: "{{ link }}&sorts=view1.order_count+desc&limit=10"}}The cause of the issue is that the field has no drill_fields defined. Per Docs, the {{ link }} Liquid variable points to Looker's default drill link. If you don't have any drills defined, then the link parameter doesn't know what to do. To resolve the issue, add drill_fields to either the field or the view.If one of the dimensions in the query has "can_filter: no", this can cause this error as well. This is because {{link}} generates the drill

Using assign | sql_quote filter value in an if statement in a derived tableKnowledge Drop

Last tested: Dec 22, 2020 The ProblemIf using the liquid assign tag to assign a filters value to a liquid variable, and then using this variable in an if statement in a derived table; the if statement does not seem to be pointing to the correct one based on the filters value.A SolutionYou will need to wrap the value in double quotes, and if it is a string that will result in double and single quotes like so:  In the above derived table you can see that we have  -- {{is_timezone_filter_quote}} in the top under our assigned. This prints the exact value of our assigned variable from the assign for the filter.You can see here in the explores sql that the assigned fields value is actually 'Yes' , a Yes wrapped in single quote all of which is a string value, so then we need to use "'Yes'" in the if statement to define this as the string value including the single quotes.  Just to note: If using the _filter reference directly in the if statement and NOT using assign though, you don’t need to

Last tested: Feb 3, 2021 /login/embed//embedThis is normal!With our scripts we end up with: https://your_company.looker.com/login/embed//embed  encoded version:https://your_company.looker.com/login/embed/%2Fembed instead of:https://your_company.looker.com/login/embed/embed The path is /login/embed/ (that is the route that the server is responding to) the first URL parameter for that route is the target_url (which needs to be url encoded).The first slash separates the /login/embed from the target url and the second is part of the target url.So you can think of it like this:/login/embed/<target_url> where the target url is /embed/dashboards (but url encoded)If you omitted the first one, you wouldn’t be able to log in (because the /login/embed%2Fembed%2Fdashboards route doesn’t exist.
