Why can't I set a column limit when pivoting?

Some dialects pivot with front-end work - Looker can only apply column limits when the pivoting is accomplished in the SQL query.

For example, Denodo pivots in the front end, so we can't apply a column limit to explores that are built off a Denodo connection.
