In the same instance, you can't have two models with the same name, even if they are in different projects.
But in the case of imported projects, they can have the same name.
A user was wondering if you can import the same remote project twice in difference projects on the same instance. The answer is yes! when you import a project, the imported lookml files don't actually live on this project - hence it is okay if two imported projects have the same model names.
