How do I force a custom link to open in a drill modal?

IN SOME SITUATIONS:

You can use &origin=drill-menu at the end of your link: parameter to force it to open in a drill modal in the current tab rather than a new window. There are certain known situations where this does not work, but we need to do more testing to be certain - this isn't something that's officially supported.
