After a few months of hiatus and transition, I couldn’t be happier to announce: Data Explorers Guild events are coming back in full force! 🕵️♂️🕵️♀️ In case you don’t know, the Data Explorers Guild (DEG) is a friendly group of data enthusiasts that get together virtually each month to learn from one another, share experiences with Looker and data, and explore fun datasets in a collaborative environment. We’re still locking in the details for the next upcoming event and will share more on that soon. For now, we’re looking for speakers! Sign up to speak at one of our monthly meetups! You don’t need to have participated in past DEG meetups to speak, just a desire to share your experience with Looker, data, or any other relevant topic you’re passionate about. Hey Good Lookers, It’s been an absolutely delightful run serving as your community manager. Over the past few years, I’ve had the great privilege of meeting many of you in person, and even more of you virtually— I feel so lucky. I can’t think of a better way to keep abreast of the latest Looker functionality and news than to embed into the Community (the exact same benefit y’all get from being here). So it’s with somewhat heavy heart that I formally announce a changing of the guard. For a few months now actually, I’ve been working on our engineering team building out a Developer Relations function for those using our API and other “Powered By Looker” features.@Michael will be taking the reigns of the Looker Community team and bringing awesome new energy and ideas with him. I’ll let him introduce himself in his own words below, but rest assured that I’m really excited about what he’s going to do with the place. I’ll still be hanging around and making sure to answer all your API and embe
As promised, here is the wrap-up of all the questions that we didn’t have time to get to live (or had to research the answers to) during the Q1 2021 “What’s New in Looker?” webinar last week! Weren’t able to make it to the webinar? No problem! Here’s the AMER recording | Here’s the EMEA recording Explore Improvements and Quick Start Can the Quick Start functionality be leveraged in embedded environments?Quick Start can definitely be used by embedded customers! Someone will need to define the queries in the model/Explore, so that is something to take into account if you require more granular permissioning of fields for your embed use case. Can we save specific visualization settings to be associated with Quick Start? This isn't possible today, but something we're evaluating as we consider improvements to Quick Start. Currently, we are using Looker's default visualization selection based on the fields in the query. Does it slow anything? Any impact on performance? We don't have any know

We published a blog post today about what 2021 looks like for Looker. There’s some great tidbits in there, and I recommend all interested Looker users give it a read to see what’s on the horizon. One thing to call out for those who don’t read it: Looker major versions will now match the calendar year, so we’re jumping straight from Looker 7.x to Looker 21.x. Don’t worry, you didn’t fall asleep for 14 years. Drop a comment with what feature/area you’re most excited to see us invest in!
This is a super cool peek under the hood of Looker, written by our engineers and posted on our official engineering blog. It’s definitely software engineering heavy, but if you’re interested in looking into the inner workings of the Looker app, it’s really cool. https://medium.com/looker-engineering/turning-looker-up-to-11-daa00de88d4c
This is a wrap-up of all the questions that we didn’t have time to get to live (or had to research the answers to) during the Q4 2020 “What’s New in Looker?” webinar. Didn’t make it to the webinar? Catch the recording here. Mobile AppRegarding the mobile app is there a plan for an iPad specific app? I tested on an iPad and it displays as phone sized, not filling the screen completely. Yes! The work for full iPad support is slated soon. Do links work in the mobile app? They should work fine! If you have a more specific question or aren’t seeing what you’d expect, feel free to drop a comment here. Is dashboards-next supported in the mobile app? The mobile app currently uses legacy dashboards, there’s no option to change the dashboard type at this time. To be clear, this just means that all dashboards will display in the legacy style— All dashboards, regardless of version, will be accessible and usable in the mobile app. How do user attributes work with the mobile app? We currently pa
