Latest Release Notes and Highlights

21.12-  Release Highlights, Changelog, Breaking Changes

  • Enhanced Navigation. The Enhanced Navigation Labs feature simplifies and streamlines the left panel navigation and condenses the top navigation drop-down menus. Access the Development Mode toggle in the lower left and the Admin panel from the gear icon in the top right. 

  • Grouping and quick calculations. With the Custom Fields Labs feature enabled, you can more easily make a custom dimension that groups other dimensions and creates some commonly used table calculations in fewer steps.

  • Marketplace Auto Install. When Marketplace Auto Install is enabled, you can specify which Looker-built applications that Looker will install and update automatically. In Looker 21.12, only the Looker API Explorer is available for automatic installation.

  • PDT Development Mode visibility. Users with the see_pdts permission can now see the state of their trigger-based PDTs while in Development Mode both from the IDE and the PDT page in the Admin panel.

Improved Search is GA. Now generally available for Looker-hosted Kubernetes instances without the need to enable a Labs feature, the Looker search feature now provides better ranking of search results for short search terms and partial matches and no longer includes LookML files in content searches (LookML files are still searchable in the Looker IDE).

Tips and Tricks

In 21.12+, our new Enhanced Navigation simplifies app and content navigation and gives us up to 5x page load performance boost between common Looker pages. Check it out in Labs!
