Autogeneration of model via API / SDK

Hello,

When creating a Looker project it’s possible to have Looker auto-generate LookML for you by selecting ‘Generate model from database schema’.  https://docs.looker.com/data-modeling/getting-started/connect-to-db-and-generate-model

I’d like to do the same thing using the API via the Python SDK.  Looker support has told me that there is not a standard way to do this using the API, but there were rumours that a customer had managed it somehow.  Any ideas?

My current approach is to connect to the database, read the schemas, generate LookML files, and push them to GIthub.  I’d like to use Looker’s generator instead of generating it myself, if possible, because Looker’s is better.
