API driven updates to LKML files

Hi,

I am currently facing a scenario where the lkml model/view files can be frequently updated (schema can change frequently as we maintain a lot of tables).

This solution might work for me but it is about 2 yrs old: 

1. I wanted to check here if this is still the best way to use GitHub API to push to Looker Project files? Or Does looker provide an alternative API?
2. Can the looker project API handle the scenario?  Can the below API be an alternative to using the GitHub API to push lkml model/view files?   https://docs.looker.com/reference/api-and-integration/api-reference/v3.1/project#update_project_git_branch
