Scheduling Looks and Dashboards Using Webhooks (3.46+)

Looker webhooks are an excellent way to ferry data from Looker to servers or services. For example, by writing a small server or by using a service like Zapier, a scheduled webhook can be used to move a Look’s data to Google Sheets, Amazon S3, Dropbox, an SMS, and other destinations. Here are the steps to schedule a Look or Dashboard for webhooks. Note that before you begin, your Looker user must have the send_outgoing_webhook or admin permission. The Looker API v3.0 has a custom authentication scheme which requires a SHA-1 hash of the query parameters. Does the generated code know how to do this or I need to modify the generated code.

Queries: "Run Inline Query" endpoint returns a "404 not found"

Running a basic query { model: ‘test’, view: ‘base_schema’, fields: [ ‘base_schema.city’, ‘base_schema.country’, ], limit: ‘500’ } My develop tab for the project “test”, has the model “test” and the view “base_schema”. When I hit the get projects and get models api endpoints test does show up for both. The Query: Run Url Encoded Query endpoint also returns a 404 not found for the same model “test”, and view “base_schema”.

The function updateUserAttribute throws ApiException

I want to use Looker JavaSDK to update userAttribute. The code used UserAttributeApi to get one userAttribute. Then, I used setLabel() function to change label and called the function updateUserAttribute() to update the object. How to run look through specific user in development mode

I would like to be able to use the API to run a look under a specific users account in development mode for that user. Is that possible? I found that I can login as a specific user under api auth (login_user). But would that user need to currently be in development mode in order to use the development version of the models? Or is there a way to force development mode to be used? Reason for this request is to allow automation of testing development models. Thanks.

Generate a list of available dashboards for an embed user with the API

Managing content access and surfacing relevant dashboards for an embedded Looker deployment can be complex, especially when you’re serving different dashboards to different groups of users. This article aims to make that experience easier by showing you how to leverage Looker’s API to programmatically build a list of dashboards that are permissioned to an embed user. This will ultimately help you build a UI that allows users to navigate to Looker content that is relevant to them, without hardcoding anything on your end. Below, are a sequence of API calls that will ultimately return a list of dashboards available to the embed user. As you work through these steps, please consult Looker’s interactive API docs located in Admin > API. A very important thing to keep in mind is that you will need to have first created the embed user before making these API calls. Issues with embedding a Look

Hi We currently embed looks and dashboards in iframes in our application, but the method for looks is limited compared to LookML dashboards, and it causes us a few problems. For example, I set up the app config in our UAT environment and make sure everything (including Looker) is set up just right. Then, I deploy to Production when we are happy with everything. High-fives all around … except, WAIT! The link to embed the dashboard is the same in both environments /embed/dashboards/model::dashboard, but for the Looks we have something like /embed/looks/123. Because UAT and Prod are on different servers, the Look # for UAT and the Prod have different numbers. I now need to release a change against Prod to update our config. If you could “name” the look something, it would mean this wasn’t a problem. Anyone else have this issue? If so, does anyone have a way around it, or does anyeone know of a way to interrogate the Looker database to get the Look # based on the space & name it

Dynamic Iframe height and IE

I am working in changing the iframe height based on the page:properties:changed event. This work great in FF and chrome but not IE 11. The ordering on the page:properties:changed event is backwards for IE with the first look height as the last event to fire on the iframe load. FF: data height = 100 data height = 500 IE data height = 500 data height = 100 Anyone else having this issue? or any recommendation to resolve this issue is welcomed.

Share query for Embed user type

Hi, We are using Embed user type to do the integration with SFDC. I do not see a Share menu item when I use that type of user. However, when I sudo to this user from Admin, I do see the item. Is it available for Embed user type? Looker Sharing Data Looker's options for sharing data.

Creating a look via the API using a Embedded Explore

Hi! We have the looker Explore view Embedded into our application to allow Ad-Hoc analysis of data. Now we would like to expand that functionality so that users can save the explore they create as a look and view it in our product. The issue is that we can’t use the save Dialog enabled by the “save_content” sso.permission because there is additional information about the look that the user needs to provide before we can display the look as a report in our products UI. So this creates the case where a user could create a look using the explore save and never join it to the rest of the information required to display the report creating a lot of orphaned reports. The idea we had to solve this is to use the create_look API function to create a new report using the data from the embedded explore view. This leads to my question, is there a way to access the JSON representing the look created by a Embedded Explore without saving it using the Looker save UI so it can be passed to the API? Per

Webhook "411 ERROR Content Length Not Set."

We are currently building webhooks to pass data back to our systems for better conversion tracking. If we download the report in JSON format, and then send that json via CURL to the webhook it works correctly. However if we send the data directly from looker, it fails and we get a “411 ERROR Content Length Not Set.” Is there a way to pass the header content length on looker side? The current header data we are using is: header(“Access-Control-Allow-Origin: *”); //This allows us to receive data from any domain (including looker) header(‘Access-Control-Allow-Headers: Content-Type, Content-Range, Content-Disposition, Content-Description’); header(‘Access-Control-Allow-Methods: GET, PUT, POST, DELETE, OPTIONS’); header(‘Content-Type: application/json’); header(‘Content-Length: 0’); If there isn’t a way to pass the header info via the call: Would anyone have any documentation or code examples on how to receive the webhook via PHP without headers? Creating new users through Google Sheets using Looker API

As discussed in this article about custom Google Sheets functions, there’s a ton of useful things you can do from Google Sheets that integrate with Looker’s API. One of these is to create new Looker users straight from Sheets, and for example integrate this with a mail merge workflow, so you can send a customised welcome email. The script below shows how to create new users in Looker. Getting started If you don’t already have API credentials for your Looker, get them first through Admin > Users or reach out to a Looker admin in your organisation. Similar to this article, we’re going to create a custom formula we can use in Sheets, using =CREATE_LOOKER_USER(email, roles). So open up your spreadsheet and navigate to Tools > Script editor. Multiple Schedules

#The Basics As of Looker 4.6, users can create multiple schedules for a single dashboard or look. For example, a user could schedule a dashboard to be sent daily to a small team as an inline visualization, weekly to the broader team as a PDF and monthly to an S3 bucket to save a snapshot. This feature is designed to allow one user to manage multiples schedules with different recipients, formats, timezones, etc… It can also be used in conjunction with filterable schedules, which will enable a user to maintain multiple schedules with different filter sets. So, for example, a user could create 10 schedules for one dashboard delivered to 10 different recipients each with a different filter applied. When to Use Multiple Schedules A common use case for multiple schedules is delivering results on different frequencies.
