Looker Action - Using AWS Lambda function and API Gateway to update data in Redshift

Can users update data in Redshift from a Look?I’m trying to incorporate Looker action parameter into a Look to enable users select a value for a row of data and have that user-selected value written back to our Redshift database. What I want to do is exactly the same as this post but I’m wondering if I can use AWS infrastructure (Lambda function with API Gateway and Amazon Redshift) instead of Google cloud function and BigQuery? Has anyone done this before?

How to create a query with custom dimensions via the API?

I’m trying to construct a query dynamically in Python and provide a link to it as part of some output. I’m posting to [url]/api/3.1/queries with body equivalent to{'model': 'company_investigations', 'view': 'investigations', 'fields': ['a_bunch.of_fields', 'a_table.like_this.one'], 'filters': {'investigations.created_time': '2020-06-01 to 2020-07-01', 'investigations.team': '1234'}, 'query_timezone': 'UTC', 'limit': 500, 'dynamic_fields': [{'dimension': 'a_name_for_it', 'label': 'A Name For It', 'expression': '${investigations.a_number} <= 25', '_kind_hint': 'dimension', '_type_hint': 'yesno'}]}Getting a 500 “An error has occurred.”The same thing works if I remove the dynamic_fields kvp.Does anyone have an example of a body that works while including a custom dimension?

Looker API for lookml views

Hi, I am looking for a Looker API to get views from model similar to /api/4.0/lookml_models/{lookml_model_name}/explores/{explore_name} for explores. Does such API endpoint exists or will I have to parse our lookml repository to get this information? I would like to use information about views for gathering metadata about underling tables used by dashboards/looks. Having this metadata will allow us to better understand usage of data in our databases.

Clarification on Looker Components "Coming Soon"

I’ve recently been working on moving our custom developers’ tools to an app in Looker using the Looker Extension Framework. As I’m building the layout, I’ve noticed a lot of the Looker Components are marked as “Coming Soon.” Do we know when? I’m trying to decide whether to begin using material-ui, or wait for the Looker components needed. Kind regards, –Thomas ps. What category should Looker Extension framework questions go under? And what tag is most appropriate to identify it?

Extension framework logout

How do I make a logout link work in the extension SDK? I am using the react extension framework SDK, and running my extension framework application in /spartan mode. When I try calling lookerCoreSDK.spartanLogout(), the SDK throws an error in my console that reads Logout from extension not allowed. I tried adding “logout” as an entitlement in the manifest file, but it didn’t improve anything.

Looker SDK: How can I get images from tiles within a dashboard, with filters applied?

Hello, world! I have recently started using the Looker SDK at work and am hoping to get images (e.g. PNGs) for each tile in a given Dashboard, with custom filters applied as an option. In the example repo, I have taken a close look at two examples: Getting the whole dashboard as a PDF, which allows for filtering. Getting tiles from a dashboard as a PNG, which does not allow for filtering (seemingly?). Is there a way to do some combination of the two and filter a tile before getting an image of it? Or, if not, is there a way to request this feature? Thanks, Sam

Cache does not work for fetching 'All results' via API 3.0

Fetching ‘All results’ was possible using run_inline_query for a Dashboard/Look either by passing no ‘limit’ or by ‘limit’ as -1. In order to pull the cached data, we have created a datagroup which caches the data for 8 hours. Because of which we were able to fetch cached data for 5000 rows using schedules for a dashboard, whereas look does not cache at all. Is there any way to get cached response for ‘All results’?

Attempting update_look in Python SDK, assertion err. I must have my syntax wrong

Among our users, we’ve got lots of trouble with dashboards and looks running big queries upon load - so I’ve been tasked with turning it off on existing objects. Using the python looker_sdk, I am able to scan through and see that setting on all existing looks. I haven’t been able to update a test Look to turn if off, though - I get an err at line 8130 of methods.py: “assert isinstance(body, models.WriteLookWithQuery)” My test app as it stands now: import looker_sdk sdk = looker_sdk.init40("./looker.ini") for thislook in sdk.all_looks("id,title,is_run_on_load"): print(thislook.title,thislook.is_run_on_load) if thislook.title == "TestingROL": setrol = {"is_run_on_load":False} updlook = sdk.update_look(thislook.id, setrol) I’ve tried a few dozen varieties of syntax based on samples and other folks’ resolved issues, but have not landed on the right way to do this. Problem creating custom measure with dynamic_fields api parameter

Hi! I’m having some trouble creating a custom measure via the Looker API (4.0). Technically, I’m using the JavaScript SDK via extension framework, but I get the same results via standalone API as well. I’m trying to make a new custom measure based on an existing dimension, but the measure needs to be of type number. However, these are the only types of measure I seem to be able to create (screenshot from the custom fields user interface below) Trying to pass type number into the dynamic_fields parameter (the API way to create custom fields) and it fails. It just gives up and makes my custom field a dimension instead of a measure (no errors communicated to me) Why are these the only measure types I can create? How can I create a custom measure of type number? Thank you! I know you’re all super busy, but it would really help me out to have some clues here. Easily loading JSON to a dataframe

What is the simplest way of getting the json results from a look into a pandas dataframe? Assuming I have a two dimensional table, with one dimension pivoted. (Note, I’ve actually written functions that parse the json and create a dataframe. But it’s complex, involves nested loops are other seemingly unnecessary stuff. Why am I unable to simply load the json output?) Simply doing: look_results = sdk.run_look(1234, ‘json’) df = pd.read_json(look_results) But the resulting dataframe isn’t parsed correctly. I experienced an issue with Python SDK function "all user attribute group values"

Embedded Looker Dashboard: Disable "Move to Trash..."

We’re using embedded looker dashboards / explores / looks. By enabling the save_content permission a user is able to edit the dashboard. They are also able to delete it. The Move to Trash... menu item is enabled. Is there a way to disable it? I was hoping to manage all the Dashoard lifecycle OUTSIDE of the embedded frame. If this cannot be done, are there any events I could identify a delete? e.g. sent from IFRAME back to parent? Thanks in advance.

Chrome : Error 401 - not authenticated while accessing looker URLs

Hello, We are unable to view looker reports with latest chrome’s SameSite Cookie updates from google as per this https://www.chromium.org/updates/same-site Works fine with other browsers like firefox More can be found in this screenshot I’m assuming Looker team is already aware of this release from Google and are working on setting cookies with SameSite= None? Copy Embedded User-Defined Dashboard Using API

Hi all, I know that many people have wondered if it’s possible (and how to) copy a user-defined (UDD) dashboard using the API. In the past, people have suggested using gzr but not everyone wants to use gzr. I’ve created a basic python script that uses only API calls to copy a UDD (both content and layout). The main use case here is to copy an embedded UDD. Shared embedded dashboards can generally be copied by using the import_lookml_dashboard end point. Limitations Cannot copy dashboards that have text tiles (at this moment, plan to fix this as soon as I have time) Cannot copy dashboards that have Looks as tiles. Need to convert all Looks to tiles before copying. The code can be found here Hope this helps some people!

run_look when result_format=png returns cached result even if cache=false & cache_only = false

Params cache = false & cache_only = false work correctly when running run_look, as seen in image, recent weeks are returned in the response when result_format = json. However when result_format = png, the most recent week shown in the resulting chart is 25th of May, 1 month ago. (apparently new users can only post 1 image, so im posting the response when result_format = json) .

Hello, I’m trying to reproduce what the following would do in SQL: SELECT * from MY_TABLE LIMIT 10 OFFSET 10 How should I go about doing that? I’m using runInlineQuery from the sdk. Background: I’m trying to implement infinite scrolling in a custom viz. I see there is an option to set the limit of records fetched, but it only allows an integer value.
