Are Unused Queries Ever Removed?

From what I’ve found, once a Query has been saved to a Dashboard/Look, the Query cannot be edited or deleted.

I’m just curious, if all Dashboards/Looks that use a particular Query are deleted, what happens with the underlying Query? Is it retained indefinitely regardless if it is used or not?

The question came up as I am wondering about the reusing of Dashboard Elements through the API. I am working on some automated functions, and want to be sure that if I reference a particular Query ID, it will 1.) forever be there and 2.) never change from when it was originally created.
