The datatype parameter is a parameter for a dimension_group: of type: time.

This parameter tells Looker what datatype to expect coming from the database and consequentially how to transform it into the timeframes you specify in the timeframes: parameter. eg. if the column is an epoch in the database put datatype: epoch.
