New email user doesn't get setup password page - sent directly to email login page

I’m trying to set up a new email user and have a problem in that when they click on the ‘activate’ link in the ‘welcome’ email the web browser shows the email user login page, not the setup password page.

The complication is that this user had previously been recorded as an embedded report user. I found this by searching for their name and found two entries: one for the new email user, and a second for the embedded report user.

I deleted the embedded report user entry, but it made no difference.

Any thoughts? I’m wondering if the Looker is caching the embedded user ids even after they are deleted

Do you use SAML Authentication?
I’ve encountered that behavior when the Looker instance was setup with a an identity provider.

We are using OpenID.

Try giving the login_special_email permission to that user
