In Looker 6.4, Looker’s method for rendering image-based data formats for sending, scheduling, and downloading has changed.
Turning on the Legacy Rendering legacy feature instructs Looker to use PhantomJS, Looker’s legacy renderer.

In Looker 6.4, this legacy feature is on by default for customers already using the PhantomJS renderer. In Looker 6.6, this legacy feature is off, and it will be removed in Looker 6.18.

If you had previously enabled the Enhanced Rendering Labs feature and installed the Chromium renderer, you have already enabled the new rendering method.

Looker 5.22-6.2 (Enhanced Rendering off, using PhantomJS renderer)

Certain Looker features, such as PDF and Visualization rendering options for data deliveries and downloads, will not be available.

To migrate from PhantomJS to Chromium, install Chromium and enable the Enhanced Rendering Labs feature.

Looker 5.22-6.2 (Enhanced Rendering on, using Chromium renderer)

Admins of Looker-hosted deployments and of customer-hosted deployments who have installed Chromium and enabled the Enhanced Rendering Labs feature will be able to:

  • (5.22+) Select PDF and Visualization formatting options for data deliveries and downloads

  • (6.2+) Access PDF sizing and orientation options for data deliveries and downloads

Looker 6.4-6.16 (Legacy Rendering on, using PhantomJS renderer)

  • (6.4) Legacy Rendering is automatically enabled for customer-hosted deployments using PhantomJS

  • (6.6) Legacy Rendering is automatically disabled for customer-hosted deployments using PhantomJS

  • (6.18) Legacy Rendering and PhantomJS will no longer be supported
