work in Workspace drive without drive for desktop

When opening google drive files, they are converted to unicode characters. Google support told me that this cannot be changed in google workspace. So I can't work with google workspace on any other computer without installing the google drive for desktop module. This applies to Windows and linux computers. Under debian I have google drive integrated as a folder (gnome). Now I have the problem that the files are converted to Unicode when opened. Saving is therefore not possible. From Google I get no help that Linux is not supported. Also there is no google desktop for Linux. Does anyone have an idea how to solve the problem?
