Moving dashboards to a new model

I have an issue with access filters in two explores.

  • First, I have an explore โ€˜Xโ€™ that has an access filter on dimension โ€˜Aโ€™
  • Second, I have an explore โ€˜Yโ€™ that derives from explore โ€˜Xโ€™ and has its own access filter on dimension โ€˜Bโ€™

For a variety of reasons both access filters are set from the same user attribute.
Explore Yโ€™ thus has two access filters: โ€˜Aโ€™ and โ€˜Bโ€™.

Something seems to have changed recently in Looker because:

  • Previously explore โ€˜Yโ€™ only seemed to have access filter 'B as active
  • Now explore โ€˜Yโ€™ has both access filters โ€˜Aโ€™ and โ€˜Bโ€™ active

How can I fix this so that explore โ€˜Yโ€™ only has access filter โ€˜Bโ€™ active?

I had one idea:

  • Create a new explore โ€˜Zโ€™ that derives from explore โ€˜Xโ€™
  • Remove the access filter from explore โ€˜Xโ€™ and add it to explore โ€˜Zโ€™
  • Change all the reports that were using explore โ€˜Xโ€™ to using explore โ€˜Zโ€™.

Would that work? Any other suggestions?

One last question on using the validator to update content models. Does this process update the existing dashboard entry or instead do a delete/add? Iโ€™m worried about losing links to known dashboards by number.

I only have an answer to your last question- content validator updates existing records. We do not lose dashboard or look links when we use this tool ๐Ÿ™‚

Best of luck on the rest!
