Is it possible to assign date_start to a liquid variable

Please see my reply comment left in this thread . I am basically trying to do exactly what OP did by using liquid to compare dates, but instead of hardcoded dates I want to use {% date_end date_filter %}. I can't for the life of me figure out if it's possible to assign {% date_end date_filter %} to a liquid variable, or if there's any kind of workaround. I am using Snowflake.
