Create Chart to show new hires vs. resignations by month

Hi,

I'm very new to Looker and this is my first post. What I need to create is a chart that shows new hires and resignations by month in Looker. I have 2 tables, one is active headcount table that has EE ID and Hire Date, and the other table has all terminations, EEID and their terminations date.

To start with: can you suggest a formula to count new hires by month? the fields that maybe used are: EEID + Hire Date

As for terminations: EEID + Termination Date
