Integrate Looker dashboard with API source

Our team has created a model that they want Looker to connect to using an API.  With the API, the hopes is that values from a filter in a dashboard can be sent to the model, run the model with these values, and the output is then sent back and generated in the Looker dashboard.

Is this possible with a customer hosted instance or Looker in general?

If so, what steps need to be taken to make this happen?
