When visiting a topic I've already visited, I'm taken to the top of the topic, forcing me to scan the entire topic to find content I've not already seen. This is particularly cumbersome if the topic is active and posts spread across several pages.
Instead, I would prefer to be taken to the first post I have not yet seen in the topic. Note that this may not be the most-recent post in the topic.
Similarly, choosing to enter a topic using the Latest post link takes me to the bottom of the topic, which may not be the first post I've not seen, again forcing me to scan through earlier posts to find my place.
