Retrieve dashboard of a deleted user

Hi,

We are currently facing a challenge with accessing Looker dashboards created by a user who has left the organization. The user's Google account was deleted, and their Google Workspace data was transferred to another individual. Despite our efforts, we have been unable to access the dashboards through various means, including attempting to recover the deleted user's email and accessing Looker via that email.

I am reaching out to inquire if anyone has encountered a similar situation and if there are any recommended strategies or solutions for regaining access to these dashboards.

Any insights or assistance you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Hi! Thanks so much for posting your question.

If you delete a user from Looker, you should still be able to access their content.

  • Any Looks or dashboards that were saved in the deleted user's personal folder should have been moved to the trash folder.
  • Any Looks or dashboards that they saved in shared folders should still exist in those folders. Any user with Admin permissions can restore any deleted content from the Trash folder.

The Trash section on the Deleted and unused content for Admins documentation page has detailed steps.

If you deleted a Google Workspace user and are using Looker Studio, the Google Workspace docs advise that  any assets (including reports) that weren't transferred before the user's account was deleted are no longer accessible. Were the assets transferred before the user was deleted?
