Exploring & curating data
Dashboards, Looks, Visualizations— it all happens here
I have mmm-yy in my dataset.Anyone know how to create a custom filter which returns dates that start on a specific start date (eg. 1/1/19 and end on the most recent completed month.eg. if it’s 28Jan22 today, I want the dates to return Jan 2019 - Dec 2021. eg. If it’s 15Feb22 today, I want the dates to return Jan 2019 - Jan 2022
Hi everyone, I am struggling to find a way to set the Default Value of a Dashboard Filter equal to the user attribute. This is the case:I have a dashboard with a filter named “Country”. Each user has a user_attribute called “Country”.What I would like to have is to have a default value for the filter “Country” equal to the contry of the user that is entering the dashboard.Do you know if there is a wat to do it?I tried many things, but there seems not to be a way to do it.Thanks for your help
We sometimes need a “mega Explore” - an explore that joins several adjacent domains together (e.g. web traffic + deal stages + phone activity + orders + payments). It’s unlikely we need all of that information in any one chart, but it’s convenient that a savvy enduser can pull any field that they possibly could want for a given analysis, no matter how uncommon (e.g. web traffic + payments). The question is: for our model, I see 2 approaches:Build 1 “mega-Explore” that Joins together several Views, each of which has several Dimensions, so we end up with ~100 fields. Then, create multiple user-friendly “simple Explores” by Extending the mega-Explore and using filters to hide most of the fields from the enduser. Build the multiple distinct “Simple explores” (e.g. web traffic; deal stages; phone activity; orders; payments) from the bottoms up. And then, build 1 mega-Explore the same way we did in A using Joins (or maybe alternatively by Extending multiple “simple Explores”). In some ways A
Hello Commnunity,I am looking to create something similar to hierarchial slicer on powerbi. In my case i have 10 levels of employees starting from level 1 (CEO) for 200 different companies. So my vision is that when i launch the dashboard the default filter would be list of 200 different CEO and then when i click on a particular ceo, everyone reporting directly to him are visible in the expansion with each value having a futher scope of expansion till level 10. For this i have two fields, one is employee id and other is manager id. manager id for CEO would be null and hence they are identified as CEO, all other employee id will have a manager id. My selection is going to be employee id which will populate all the measure realted to that employee.
I have been trying to apply value format to my Looks but they are not working as I expected. In this picture the dimension used is in date_year type, but I’ve tried using the time type also and different formats I have the impression they were working fine just a few weeks ago
The schedule history page is limited, so in cases we want to see more results we can use system activity’s scheduled_plan explore to see up to 60 days of results. All you need to do is replace the [YOUR_DOMAIN_NAME_HERE] section in the following link with your instances url, and as long as you have permission to view system_activity explores you can query this: [YOUR_DOMAIN_NAME_HERE]/explore/system__activity/scheduled_plan?fields=scheduled_job.created_time,scheduled_job.run_once,scheduled_job.id,scheduled_job.status,user.name,scheduled_job_rank.content_type_id,scheduled_plan.name,scheduled_plan_destination.type,scheduled_plan_destination.format,scheduled_job.status_detail,scheduled_job_stage.runtime&sorts=scheduled_job.created_time+desc&limit=500&query_timezone=Europe%2FDublin&vis=%7B%22show_view_names%22%3Afalse%2C%22show_row_numbers%22%3Atrue%2C%22transpose%22%3Afalse%2C%22truncate_text%22%3Atrue%2C%22hide_totals%22%3Afalse%2C%22hide_row_totals%22%3Afalse%2C%22size_to
Hi,We need the code versioning ability of looker But we dont want the user to have to worry about creating PR. User should be able to create reports using just the UI without code. And whatever they create should get versioned (could be in terms of sql that the tool autogenerate in the back).
Hi all, Has anyone had any success with parsing Active Directory data (such as group policy, or domain controller data), Okta events (such as application add/delete), or Azure PIM events in Looker? Or other data/security log events? Can you educate me on your processes? We’re looking at trying to look at some of this data internally, potentially for future audit processes and wonder what others have done. Thanks, in advance.
Hi!I was trying to look for the limits in each map type and couldn’t find it in the guideshttps://docs.looker.com/exploring-data/visualizing-query-results/interactive-map-optionsAs I work at Holidu, a vacation rentals metasearch, we have tons of geographical data we would like to use. However, I have faced limitations using zipcodes, lat/long and even custom map layersCould anyone clarify what are the limits in each case? So far I have faced the following: show individual points for lat/long: maximum 5000? we would like to see how our vacation rentals concentrate and if you play around in our website you will see we have far more than 5000 :) show total rentals in Germany by Zipcode: I had to a custom layer as unfortunately Looker only has data for US zipcodes. I used this beautiful TopoJson file available in Git. It worked perfectly on Explore mode, showing all the areas corresponding to the zipcodes, but not in the Look. I have deleted row limit, so it’s not because we have this. We
Hi All, I currently have data of users and their associated segment at specific points of time. Data looks something like this (sorry I can’t put more than 1 pic) User ID; Time; Category 1; July; Segment A 1; August; Segment A 2; July; Segment A 2; August; Segment B For example, User 2 can change his/her status from Segment A to Segment B from July to August. What I am trying to achieve is the percentages of users from each Segment converted to other Segments by time. It should look like this. So far I haven’t found a way to build something like that. Would really appreciate helps and inputs from you guys. Thanks!
Does anyone else dislike the updates to Lookers Filters? Instead of being able to start typing in a filter I now have to click into each one, and most of the times click twice. Does anyone else agree that Looker should give you the option of using the new filters or sticking with the old?
Hi there,Explore searches return description matches, which is terrible as it adds too much noise on search results. For example: say I have 10 'revenues' variables, '10 gross profit' ones, 10 'gross margin' ones, 10 'ebitda' ones, 10 'net income' ones, etc. In this case 40 variables will be described as "revenues minus this and that". As a result a search for revenue will return 50 variables rather than the 10 that I want. How to remove descriptions from searches? Ideally searches should look at variable names for variables without labels, or labels for variables with labels and that is it. Thank you PS: post subject should have been "Explore searches returning too much noise - I don't want to search variable descriptions!" but I can't find a way to edit this (apparently only the post can be edited but not the subject and deleting and posting again doesn't work).
