Why use Looker? Looker is awfully expensive compared to BI tools like Tableau or even PowerBI. Well, this was the question I asked the operations team before I knew what Looker could do.
Looker have 4 main core functionality. There are UI/UX, Data Delivery, Performance and Platform. Each function is made up of tons of powerful tools for you to interpret big data. All of which aren’t found in other BI application - especially Tableau. Now, before you assume I’m favoring Looker instead of Tableau… Before Looker was introduced to me, I have been using Tableau to visualize the data and RapidMiner to clean the data using their machine learning tools.
After using all the industrial applications for data analysis, I found there isn’t a go-to application for it. It depends on your company’s needs. If you’re looking for an affordable tool to analyze data that is a one-time off project, Tableau is the way to go. Big data aren’t optimize for Tableau. Queries started to lag and the application started to crash on me after the rows started to grow rapidly.
But hey, back to the topic - WHY LOOKER? Well, there are 3 parts to this.
