New to Looker

I’ve tried to find literature on how to start and everything begins with dashboards and looks and all that already established. How do I literally start from scratch? I need help on what I need, and where. What pivots? What measures? What dimensions? What filters? What data/results?

In the ‘getting started’ section, there are a lot of great videos to get you started 😉

Besides, there are a lot of training videos from very easy to moderate level to explore and get you started https://training.looker.com/

Hey @ktbyork

I’d definitely echo @mathias_luyten‘s insight here - training.looker has a lot of helpful videos. In particular, I’d check out the Getting Started with LookML and Building Explorers Users Will Love.

Also, in some respects it depends on what your role/goals are! You mentioned wanting to learn “from scratch”, so I’m guessing you’re a developer in which case our documentation on how to connect to a database, setting up auth/user permissions, and starting to learn/use LookML are a great place to start.

If you’re more of a data consumer, then we have a great (and free) interactive course in Qwiklabs that walks you through building a dashboard from an explore. And another one on how to sort and filter data in Looker

The first couple steps in Looker can feel big, but we have a ton of resources for you online and I encourage you to keep the dialogue going here on Community throughout your journey with Looker!
