Deprecation Notice: Drill Behavior (3.42+)

The ability to use the legacy drill behavior is removed starting in Looker 4.22. Looker allows users to “drill” into certain cells of a data table, to see more information about the elements that comprise that cell. As of Looker 3.42, Looker shows the results of a drill in a pop-up window instead of bringing users to the Explore page. This way users don’t lose context, and can quickly go back to their original work if desired. However, if they do want to explore the drill data, they can easily click on a button to do so. Old Behavior Drills go directly to the Explore page. New Behavior Drills go to a pop-up first, and then users can choose to explore the data if they like.

Pivot over Dimensions?

Hello Looker & Community, Part of my Web app collects survey data. Prior to using looker, my users were accustomed to pulling survey data in a particular format, which they would distribute to our customers. Ideally, my customers would like to see survey data in a format where each line is a form submission as shown in the second picture below. Unfortunately, since the survey answers field is a string, rather than some sort of numeric, I can’t pivot over questions. Is there any way to get this pivot with dimensions acting as measures for this to work in looker without monkeying around with a complex postgres query? Thanks!! Andrew

View results of a simple SQL with a "parameter" with looker

Hello, guys. We’re now using Looker at work and I’m kinda been thrown into the project by my manager without knowing much about it (hurray for that). Wondered if somebody can help me with something that (maybe) amounts to a simple task, but I don’t know how to do it. So let’s assume I have an SQL query used by an application that looks something like “SELECT [couple of things] FROM mytable WHERE id=#{the_id}”. The application has an UI that allows to input “the_id” and then the query is run and display the results. How can I do the same thing in Looker? Just have an SQL and somehow have the parameter appear in the looker UI? Thanks, Stefan

How to do AND filters on joined views

Imagine the following: There is an ‘Owner’ view and a ‘Pet’ view. Owners have many pets. I want to know how many owners have both a dog and a cat. I don’t see any way to do this in looker and live support was unable to help either. Is it truly not possible? If so, I would like to open a feature request as it seems like a reasonable query.

[Feature Request] Reference other dimensions from an Explore's Filters

It would be very cool if Advanced Filters supported referring to other dimensions available in the explore. An example would illustrate my request best: To work around this, I have a dimension that calculates the difference between member created date & order created date. It would be even cooler to have the option of specifying a raw SQL snippet as a filter. Then one could do crazy things such as: For completeness, here’s the full SQL snippet from the screenshot above: IN SELECT(${returns.customer_id} FROM ${returns} WHERE ${returns.subtotal} > 200 GROUP BY 1) – any customer who has made a return worth more than $ 200. – Its impossible to do this filter in the UI, because as soon as I join to the returns table, I lose all orders that don’t have any returns. Having the ability to do raw sql queries also allows us to put in custom logical groupings of a filter. Currenty the AND | OR option appears automatically, and I can’t change it. Sometimes I really need the other op

Totals and row totals of 'percent_of_previous' measures are just sums

Totals of a ‘percent_of_previous’ measure should be the % of change of the associated value column’s total (compared to from its previous total). Instead, it’s summing the %s in the column. This appears to be a bug.

What happens when you click Rebuild Derived Tables

Note: for Looker-hosted instances, this option will only work if the table takes less than 1 hour to rebuild (due to browser timeouts). When you query data from a persistent derived table in Explore, there will be an option in the gear dropdown in the upper right to Rebuild Derived Tables. Clicking this will cause all the persistent derived table(s) referenced in the query to immediately rebuild, as well as all PDTs that those PDTs depend on to rebuild. Another way to look at it is that clicking Rebuild Derived Tables ensures that this query will be run with all the freshest possible data. Note: Clicking Rebuild Derived Tables will cause the PDTs referenced in the Look to be inaccessible for only the user who clicked the button while they rebuild. While they are building, all other users will be able to query the already-built tables. Once the tables finish rebuilding, all users will be querying these new tables

How to combine minor dimension values into an "Other" value

Is there a way to do in a Look what the following does in SQL? select if( c in ('Anchorage','Fairbanks','Juneau'),-- that is, the c column has one of those values -- then c, -- else 'Other' ) as city, count(*) -- or another aggregate function from t group by city; This groups not by the column in the table itself but by that same column with some values combined into one.

Why does my account setup link take me to the login page?

If you have just had an account set up on your Looker, you will receive a setup email with a link to finish setting up your account. When you click this link, it may take you to a login page (rather than a page prompting you to finish setting up your account). This is happening because LDAP or SAML is enabled on your Looker instance. These services allow users to log in using a common username and password across multiple sites. If you know what your common username/password are, log in with those credentials! If you are unsure what those credentials are, talk to an administrator for your Looker. They will be able to point you in the right direction.

Is there a normdist calculation in looker?

I am trying to add a statistical significance calculation to my table using table calculations in looker. I have got to a z-score using the standard functions available but cannot find a way to turn this into a p-value. Is there something like the normdist function found in excel and R that I can use in looker, or is this something that may be coming in the future?

Drilling into a field to get a pivot table

Is it possible to set up a drill down field, so that when I click on it, I get a new table that is already pivoted? I’m imagining using this to drill into some large top-line metrics, breaking the results out into both date and regions at the same time.

Some AdBlock Plugins block Explores with 'ad' in the name

Do you have a version of AdBlock installed on your browser? We have come across some versions of AdBlock occasionally not allowing users to access certain models or explores that have “ad” in the name. You can test whether this might be the problem by running the query in Incognito mode, or in a different browser. If you whitelist looker.com in your AdBlock extension, this should prevent this from happening again. For more information on how to whitelist domains in AdBlocker, checkout this YouTube how-to video.
