Create a date range using a single value tile & table calculations

I’d like to display my tile as a range of dates e.g. February 21st 2020 - February 28th 2020. My first idea was to grab the most recent and the furthest dates and concatenate them as strings. Right now my dates are processed from LookML as 2020-02-21. What I’ve done so far is convert them to a different date time format, but when I go to concatenate it it returns in its original format of ‘43880’.

I’ve found this article on how to do this with LookML and filters but I wanted to know if it’s possible to do this with calculated fields rather than creating a new dimension.

Any tips on how to do this?
