Yup, there’s no workaround in general for the 5000 row limit for anything in-browser, and result merging happens in the browser. We’ve had some internal discussions about how to make Merge Results more useful with large queries but we don’t currently have any immediate plans.

If your databases are very similar (on the same SQL dialect, reside on the same physical machine, and are accessible from the same connection in Looker), you can use federated joins at the model level.
