Text Tiles For Navigation - HTML Link Gets Cut Off

Hi, We are trying to create a curated experience for our sales team inside of Looker. To do that we are using a Text Tile with embedded links as a navigation bar. The challenge is that for some reason the sub-title field cuts off what we can display in it. The weird part is that it works just fine when it’s first edited. Then once you reload the page it cuts most of it off. Is this a bug or a feature? Also - It would be great if Looker made it easy to create simple curated loops of dashboards so that very untechnical users would have an easier time getting around.

Is there any visibility on when dynamic icons might be available on maps? The use case is to display different icons for points in different categories.

Drill into fields from other views?

Is it possible for drill fields to come from other views within the same explore? Example: My user has created various looks and dashboards from this one Explore. He wants to drill into more detail by ID, but some of the fields he wants are from a different view (with in the same explore). Is there anyway I can go about this without creating a derived table and thus having to redo the Looks.

Adding Markdown Document to a Dashboard

I am trying to make our instance much more of a self-service tool by making dashboards and looks much more easy to find. To do this I have thought about building a “table of contents” that can be used to navigate and provide context and inform users what is available to view. Ideally it would be great if I could add a markdown document to a dashboard (Text boxes seem to be limited compared to a regular markdown document). Does anyone know if this is possible? Other thoughts have been making a dummy dimension that will house a bunch of HTML code (this would be more arduous and take much more coding).

Per-look formatting

Hi there! I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on how to achieve per-report formatting. Team A in our company has very specific requirements regarding how null values should appear, which differ from team B. Ideally, I wouldn’t have to define “Dimension A - ‘NA’ as Null” and “Dimension A - “NO VALUE” as null” Thanks!!

"flag" a look in a dashboard?

We are tacking the trending in a dashboard with several looks. Say, if one of the looks detects “outlier”, we want to “flag” that look in dashboard (e.g., highlight it with red color). Is it doable (via dashboard API is also fine) ? Thanks. -Jason

Dynamic Measures

Hi There, My database has two tables (1) Item Table - Lookup table of all Items i.e jeans, shirts, T-Shirts , etc. it has fields as ID - integer - primary key Name - string (2) Sales Table - contains sales data for each item. it has fields as ID - integer - Primary Key ItemID - integer - foreign key to Item.ID *SalesAmt - numeric year - numeric Month - numeric I have created dimension as “Item Name” and measure as “Sales Amt” How do I (1) dynamically show measures in Explore as “Jeans Sales Amt” , “Tshirt Sales Amt” ? (2) Allow my user to calculate between these values. such as Sales Amt of Item Jeans Plus Sales Amt of Item Tshirt

Anyone sending data from Looker to external visualization tools like Geckoboard?

Is anyone sending data from Looker to external visualization tools like Geckoboard? In my organization, we need to display certain high-level metrics like KPIs on an information radiator. We need these metrics to refresh automatically when the underlying data changes. We currently use Geckoboard, but its visualization options are quite limited. Visualization options like funnel charts are not available to be configured on Geckoboard. Are any of you Looker users/developers sending data from Looker to a tool like Geckoboard? How about another automatic information-radiator solution, with richer visualization options?

Chart Colors Based on Non-Numeric Column?

In scripting language data viz (e.g. ggplot2 in R), imagine I have a dataframe where each row represents a school, with three columns: school.type, which has 3 possible values: ‘elementary’ or ‘middle’ or ‘high’ school.name, each school’s name student.body.size, and integer count of enrolled students If I want to make a bar chart where the x axis lists the school names, the y axis is each school’s student body size, and I want each bar’s color to be selected from a palette of 3, based on its school.type, I can just set x, y, and colour parameters to school.name, student.body.size, and school.type variables respectively. In Looker this isn’t possible currently. In order for bars to be differently colored, they need to correspond to different columns, which I’m able to accomplish with some goofy pivoting, but it would be really nice to be able to set color to be based on a non-numeric column, like school.type here.

Results from One Look becoming Filter on Another Look

Hello, I have a look that shows recent calls to a single phone number, including call id, call start/end times, call reason, etc. I want the results of incoming call phone numbers to autopopulate a filter on a separate look on the same dashboard. Is there a way to do this? Thank you.

User-defined dashboard to Lookml

I’m trying to convert an user-defined dashboard into a lookml version to enable easier changes and updates of variables and filters that apply to multiple looks used in the dashboard. I’ve followed the steps in the documentation but when I try to launch the lookml dashboard I keep getting >>Element ‘XXX’ is already defined<<. Anyone know what is causing this? Thanks

Fetch particular dashboards information, along with filters

Hi All, I am using pylooker REST API, to fetch the dashboard’s data. Following is the dashboard I have. I want the information(value of each pane). This same information is also downloadable in json/csv/other formats if we download we can get the information like this when it is downloaded.(I want the same information which we have downloaded) [{“time_dimension”:“2017-Q3”,“hours_used_sum”:{“usage_rank.dimension_or_other”:{“01) ALL”:“3,152,332,197.0”}}}, So I want the information in this way. Also, I want to apply filters if I want to find the usage on a particular day. I wrote following code for it: base_url = ‘https://zyx:19999/api/3.0/’ token = unauthenticated_authApi.login(client_id=client_id, client_secret=client_secret) client = looker.ApiClient(base_url, ‘Authorization’, 'token ’ + token.access_token) looker.DashboardFilter(‘97’) # with this line I am not getting the expected values which I have shown as downloaded information. Global filter

Hello, I started working on Looker a week ago and still getting hang of it, I am currently working on a project which requires me to sort a list of names and numbers from the same column from a table and make it into two categories, from which i need to add it to global filter there should be only two category options, type1(number),Type 2(names) in suggestions . Is there a way to do this?

Year on year % change

Hi there I would like to show year on year % change for sales data set out in month totals. So row totals then these totals showing y-o-y % changes from the month 12 months prior I have tried the below but the numbers just don’t look right (<field_name - offset(<field_name>,1)) / offset(<field_name,1) Thanks! Dashboard Sort is not applied from Scheduled PDF Export

Hello, We built a holistic dashboard and began adding in region filters at the schedule UI to schedule exports to specific teams. The issue that we are seeing is related to a specific Table chart that is sorting by Revenue in descending order. We set the schedules to filter for accounts based on region (table is sorted by revenue in descending order), however when the scheduled PDF is exported that table’s sort is no longer in descending order. To note, this is a Look that was added as a tile to the dashboard. Any ideas here? We removed the schedule and added it back in, we also rebuilt all of the tiles and dashboard but the issue persists. At this moment, we can’t send that dashboard out because we have hundreds of accounts and our reps want to see Top 15 only. But, with this sort issue we wouldn’t be reporting the proper Top 15 accounts. We also don’t want to create a different Look for every team since things change for each team at a monthly level and we have over 20+ teams. Th

Custom Filters on Dashboard Level

Hello, We have a few dashboards with well over 20 tiles each and typically each month we have to change the filters for each tile. The complexity comes into play because each tile needs a custom filter applied (var1 = ‘x’ or (var 2 = ‘y’ and var 3 = ‘z’) or var 4 = ‘u’). I was hoping that I can implement this filter at the dashboard level rather than the individual tiles level. I’ve tried looking online and it doesn’t appear that this has been asked or considered so I was wondering if this is a feature that I am just not seeing or if there is any work around other than going into all 20 tiles and updating the custom filter there. Dynamically changing Connection

Hi, I would like help with a problem that I have. Let us say that I have 10 database connections and I have dashboard for each of these. Dashboards are exact copies except database connection (and of-course data is different for them). So I have 10 different dashboards, what I want to do is to have only 1 dashboard and user should be able to select what system(connection) they want to see and the dashboard dynamically changes connection to get the data for whatever system/connection user selects. I do not want to bring all data to one database/system to get this done. Thanks

Change Look Title in Dashboard

When adding a look to a dashboard, most often the look will display the ‘title’ of the Look above the visualization. Is it posisble to change or omit the language that is displayed on the dashboard without changing the title of the Look? Oftentimes we’ll want a more descriptive Look title for internal users but a more brief title for external users (EG ‘XX Dashboard - YY Report’ displayed as ‘YY Report’) Thanks in advance!

I have a request to generate heat maps of an application using screen coordinates. Is it possible to create such a visualization by defining a surface area (shape) of a predefined size and plotting on that area given an x and y coordinate?

LookML dashboard title alignment

Hi, Is there any way to align the table title to the left in LookML? Currently it is center aligned by default and I don’t see the option in here: Looker Dashboard Element Parameters Reference page for all dashboard element parameters in LookML.

Dashboard filter not applying correctly on the scheduled PDF Export

Hi All, I tried searching for this issue, but it appears that this isn’t a widespread issue. We have a dashboard that has 10 Look tiles. Those Look tiles are built at a high level (QTD), then we apply dashboard date filters to get the proper segmentation and send it out to the appropriate teams (for now, the request is past 28 days, but from my experience this is likely to change soon - so we use dashboard filters to make updating faster instead of going into each individual tile and updating the filters there). Lately, we noticed that the date filter defaults to “past 7 days” instead of the “past 28 days” that we originally put in the dashboard. When I go into the link where we have the dashboard scheduled, the dashboard is applying the correct “past 28 days” filter. Does anyone know why when the scheduled PDF export is sent out, the dashboard date filter reverts to the default “past 7 days”? Thanks,

The Ability to Leverage Result from One Tile in Another Tile

Hi, Trying to forecast revenue using last year’s data and the current runrate in the past 7 days. To do this, I created 2 different tiles - 1. last year revenue trend 2. last 7 days’ runrate to predict the 8th day’s revenue Context: I need to use the predicted 8th day’s revenue as a starting point and use the patterns from last year’s revenue to predict the current month’s revenue. Question: is it possible to leverage the number I get from the 2nd tile in the 1st tile without having to manually copy and paste the number? I’d like to automate this report instead of doing it manually every month. Best, SK

Adding day of week to the table row but not in total row

Hi, I have been trying to add day_of_week(Mon, Tue etc) to the simple table, and need help regarding how to not show it in total row. Here is what I did. In Look ML I added this measure: measure: day_of_week_short { label: "day of week" type: string sql: CASE WHEN ${day_of_week_index} = 0 THEN 'Mon' WHEN ${day_of_week_index} = 1 THEN 'Tue' WHEN ${day_of_week_index} = 2 THEN 'Wed' WHEN ${day_of_week_index} = 3 THEN 'Thu' WHEN ${day_of_week_index} = 4 THEN 'Fri' WHEN ${day_of_week_index} = 5 THEN 'Sat' WHEN ${day_of_week_index} = 6 THEN 'Sun' ELSE '' END;; } In the explorer, here is what I see. “Fri” shows up in total row which doesn’t make sense. I know there is another way to add day_of_week but I also need “filling in missing values” feature, so I ended up creating day_of_week_short as measure. Is there any way not to show day_of_week_short in total row? Thanks

Chart time formatting with quarters

I am using a quarter timeframe with a dimension group. The formatting in my explore is ‘2017-Q2’. When I use this dimension in an area chart though, the time formatting on the x axis does not match. Is there a valid time format for quarters? I would like to display the same thing I see in the explore.
