Data points missing
I produced a look that has probably about 2500 data points on a time series. I removed the 500 row limit and when I run the look everything is shown correctly. Then I save it and go to my dashboard and for some reason I can only see 500 data points. Anything I should change to get all the data?
Conditional Formatted Single Dimension Column Chart
Hi Community, I was wondering if there is a way to take a single dimension in looker and conditionally format to a specific choice or selection in looker. So if I have one dimension named “brand” and my measure is “recommend score” my data is set up like this: BRAND Recommend Score brand A 56% brand B 66% brand C 54% brand D 57% brand E 62% where i want to make the chart highlight brand C in a different color automatically, and if I were to select another brand (i.e. Brand A, B, D, or E) it would highlight in a third color. So eventually I may have a chart that looks like this: If there is a way you think I would need to set this up in the SQL portion / just in the visualization itself that would be much appreciated! Cheers

Dashboard filter showing white space where no data available
I have a dashboard set up to show data since the 1st of August. This applies to all of the views in the dashboard. One of the views only has data from the 1st of October, this means there is 2 months of white space in the graph I’d rather not have. Similarly, I’ve been asked to only show data from the 1st of January this year. Is there a way I can keep the dashboard filter applicable to that view, so if a user changes it to “The last 2 weeks” or similar it will affect that view. Or do I need to unlink that filter from the view to make sure the graph only starts on the 1st of October/January?
Reformatting month name for chart axis
Does anyone know a way to reformat a month name time dimension which is used as a chart axis so it’s displayed as Jan, Feb, Mar etc? This would be equivalent of using %b for Time Label Format, which I can’t do because the month name dimension is a string not a date, and I can’t want to use the full date as I’m pivoting on year for YoY comparison. I can add my own short month name dimension but thought I’d throw it out here in case anyone had a better idea.
Columns stacking together in Chart
I found a link to a waterfall report, and thought I’d give it a go. I’ve made a chart that easily shows all the transactions on an account with a clear visualisation of what the balance was after each transaction, with different colours to easily show payments/increases/etc. The trouble I have is occasionally an account will have multiple transactions at the exact same time. I already have the X axis set as “Ordinal”, since it either doesn’t work (Internal Chart Error) when there are duplications, or it looks terrible if the account had say 3 transactions in a week and then another 2 years later. So if the first two transactions in the table have the exact same time, I get a “Increase” column on my chart, which starts not at zero, but at a height of how tall it is. That’s the initial balance being loaded and 2 payments, the green bars are perfect where they are, but the black bar should be from 0 to 1695, and really there should be a second black bar to show another increase. There do
Creating Panel Chart Visualization
Hi All, I am looking to create Panel Charts (similar to Excel) in Looker. The idea is I want to visualize my data with either a vertical or horizontal separation as sometimes it is hard to read/define trends when you have more than 5 in a visualization. I want to end up with something like this or even better have it stacked in the opposite way (i.e. brand on the y axis layered with the score, then quarters on the x axis). If anyone knows of a way I can do this / if there is a better visualization to show multiple fields & how the data needs to be set up in Looker it would be much appreciated! Cheers, Janet
Can a user annotate the given chart in looker?
I see some of our in-house bi/visualization tool built with PHP has a functionality that enables a user to annotate charts, for example, if there is a uptick or drop from a certain threshold, the user can annotate as they find/comment on it. How do we achieve it in looker?
Matching up Left and Right Vertical Axes - Values and Percent
Hi all, I am trying to plot revenue and costs on a column chart, along with a line for profit (black line) and a line for ROI (blue line). All series will be on the left Y axis, except for ROI, which will be on the right Y axis since it is the only percentage. My graph looks pretty good, except that the way the Y axes are lining up is very confusing. I expected my graph to have all my “values” series plotted against the left Y axis, and then have my one “percent” series (ROI) plotted against the right Y axis, with the 100% (i.e., breakeven) lining up with 0 on the left axis (i.e, where Profit = $0, ROI = 100%). However, the two Y axes do not align, which makes the graph very confusing. It looks like when I am at 100% breakeven, I am losing money, because the 100% on the right side lines up with -$2200 on the left side. Ordinarily when you have 2 Y axes, you wouldn’t need/want to control where the axes values lines up because that’s the whole point of having 2 Y axes. In this case, bec
Legend is not displaying
I’m having an issue that the legend is not appearing below my visualization. I really need the legend, so that I can select and deselect different series. How can I force the legend to appear? BTW I noticed that if I play with the window size I can get the legend to appear for a few seconds, but then the chart resizes to adjust to the new window size and the legend disappears again. HELP!
Email dashboard as html
Did this option go away with a recent release? I see now single image or pdf are the only options for sending a dashboard, I swear inline html was there previously but I don’t remember seeing any mention in release notes of the change. Any plans to bring it back? Much better user experience than getting a giant image or pdf.
Progress Bar Setup in Single Value Chart
The following article (Show Comparison: https://docs.looker.com/exploring-data/visualizing-query-results/single-value-options) shows an example of progress bar in a single value chart using a table calculation. However, there doesn’t appear to be any documentation on how to setup the calculation for the monthly target. In my attempt to add a number via the calculation, Looker places the new calculation in front of the measure (with no ability to move it) which prevents the comparison option from working. Thanks… Tom
Dash rows cut off when sent to Slack
Hi all, I have created a dashboard that is a table of customer accounts with various bits of data in each row and would love to share with my org via Slack. However, I have tried all of the options I could find (pdf, visualization, changing the paper size, as well as sharing the Look directly) and none of these will return the full table. I’m currently only able to get around ~30 rows to display out of a total of 62. Would love any advice so we can actually disseminate our work!
Need Support- how to link looker data to data studio
Need Support- how to link looker data to data studio. End goal is to have data in looker (qwiklabs learner counts for example) visualized in data studio (as it goes hand in hand with other data sources). Non-technical PgM so this probably sounds really silly but could use some guidance or connect to someone who could help. Thanks, Komal
Tiles triggering same SQL several times
Hi all, We have created a tiles dashboard and despite we choose all the looks to have the same SQL structure (in terms of dimensions and measures, having the same order). They trigger one SQL per look. There is any way to improve this? Also, when several looks on a tile dashboard point to the same explore, Looker should be capable to query once the explore to get all the required kpis. There is any plan to improve this? Thanks, Dani
Trend line improvement request
I’m using a moving average trend line to smooth daily fluctuations in cancellation rate. Since is cancellation rate is a maturing number and I want to pin it for DoD and WoW comparison, I’ve applied a 4-day maturity window. When graphing metrics with a maturity window, my preference is to extend the x-axis to the present as a visual queue to reinforce the metric implementation. When I enable the moving average trend line, it fits the entire x-axis - even when there are no data points plotted. This behavior would make sense if the data points were 0, but since they’re null, I think the line should stop at the end of the plot. Can you update the trend line implementation to ignore null values?
Top 5 and Other
As part of a dashboard I’ve got a chart which is pivoted to show dates down the rows, and categories across the columns. Unfortunately, there are 20+ categories, and sorting them by volume the last 10+ are only showing a count of 1 or 2. The resulting chart (stacked) looks really busy (even sorted descending) and the legend is especially busy. What I’d like to do is group into a Top 5, and put anything else in “Other”. Preferably I’d like to show the Top 5 for each date period, so the legend might still be showing 10 categories + other. I found something that used some sort of Row Order calculation, but I couldn’t get it to work, because I need the ordering over the columns not the rows, and there didn’t seem to be a Column equivalent. And if I switch the Date and Category in the pivot, I couldn’t get the stacked chart to still show dates on the bottom axis. Even if that had have worked, it wasn’t showing an “Other” anyway. I’ve also come across references to using Derived Tables to ge
Copy/Overwrite Dashboards and Looks between spaces
Hi, I’d like to have separate space for Production and Development of Dashboards and Looks. I found out that when I copy the same Dashboard and Look between spaces it doesn’t overwrite existing objects but create new one with appended “(Copy)” to the name. Is there any way to overwrite existing objects and keep original link? Thanks a lot.
