Timeline visualisation not able to consume "time of day"
Was thinking about using Timeline visualisation in order to represent duration of small events by the day. Idea was to use day of month (limited to past 7 days) as label, then, obviously, start time and end time of the event (there are many of them). Problem is, this visualisation pretty much restricts my intervals to be either between two dates or, well, numbers and to my surprise it cannot support interval between two "Time of Day"s (e.g. “12:30” and “12:34”). Whilst interval between two "Time"s works well and I generally like how it looks, using it to visualise data for more than one day is a big problem. To specify, my events are really small, from 20 seconds and up to max 15-25 minutes, thus to make any sense of data I need one day to be exactly on one “row of intervals”. Is that a feature that Timeline cannot work with all timeframes or more like a bug? For me it would make sense that it would be able to reflect interval between two times (of day) without need of the date. Unfort
Problems with visualisations when changing their type
After having stumbled upon these issues couple of times in the last few weeks, I have decided to attempt reporting and explaining it, in order to seek some clarity. 1. Dashboard tile’s visualisation type doesn’t change I have noticed that sometimes I have a tile and I click edit icon, in order to change its vis type. I do that, click save, but it doesn’t change. I click edit again and then the right type of vis is shown. Unfortunately changing it again doesn’t help. Refreshing the dashboard or page doesn’t help. Sometimes I think it’s because I click save so quickly that perhaps some underlaying data for the dashboard doesn’t get updated and it creates some kind of mismatch of information between the tile’s definition and dashboard’s reference to that tile? Just brainstorming here 2. Visualisation is blank This one is new. After duplicating a tile that misbehaved because of the problems from the first point, I noticed I can’t change its type and in console I’m getting following errors
Reference line - how does it actually work?
I have a lot of graphs like this: At first, when I built it ,I thought the reference line would be an hourly average of all data in the dataset but now I realise it’s only the current day. All 4 lines are built using Table Calculations out of just one measure but basically grouping them into specific time buckets. Selected day - today 06/09 Previous Days Average - usually the 7 days before current (30/08 - 05/09) Previous Day - 05/09 Same Day Previous Week - 30/08 When I add a reference line, why is only one table calculation taken into consideration?
Change drilldown visualization
Hi all, When I go to drilldown on the dashboard (actually the drilldown for line chart diagram), I can see the visualization and table. But I want to see a table by default (or even ONLY a table if this is possible). Or maybe I can even hide this drilldown? Because it appeared by default for line chart diagram. Is it possible? The screenshot is attached. Thanks in advance!
Padding around table-next visualisation
I think most of the usual visualisations, when put on a dashboard as a tile, have about 10px padding around them: (it’s not about the margins between the tiles, but look at the gridlines and the edge of the tile) However the new table-next seems to have 0 this is from the right side of the tile that touches the edge of the screen, and here is the left The row numbers have some padding on their own but the table doesn’t
Custom Legend Using Markdown?
Does anyone have experience building a custom legend? The existing legends in visualizations are so small, and very limited. I have a pie chart where I’d love to use % value labels, and then was hoping to somehow create a separate tile with the series label legend using markdown, but now sure how. any ideas would be appreciated!
Sum by date (week) range
Hi, So I have normalized some currency data points to create a result set in one currency. However, because there is an underlying user field (think user 1 in USD, user 2 in CAD, user 3 in GBP), I am not getting a grouped / summed result set by the date range. Is this a calculation that I need to write? Or this there another way to setup a sum command so I get 1 row by date?
Can I see who viewed a dashboard I made?
I created a dashboard which I made public to my company for any employee to view/use. I know I can see a single number showing how many times the dashboard has been viewed, but I also want more details like who viewed it, when they viewed it, and what kinds of filters they used on the dashboard while running it. Is this possible? Thanks!
Context menu of a text tile not shown in full
I admit that using text tiles as vertical dividers might not be the best idea but with a vertical screen it does fit my purpose. This is what it looks like: Unfortunately the context menu is always positioned to stick to the right edge of the tile: and that makes it look weird in my case:
Living with Powerpoint (or killing it)
Powerpoint is highly used here, people spend ages curating their decks to a specific standard to be able to present to management, some are the same every month and some are ad-hoc. They are not always for management but maybe to document data with a story and save away somewhere unlikely to ever be looked at again. So killing Powerpoint is going to be tricky, its like totally doing away with Excel, unlikely to happen! The most frustrating thing I am seeing is the extra step it takes for people to get their data from Looker into Powerpoint, they either manually download and then copy and paste or have a live link from a look into Excel which they then link to Powerpoint. Is it possible to do away with this middle step, maybe an export directly into Powerpoint? Would love to hear peoples processes, work arounds and stories about Powerpoint usage and how this can be a smoother experience. Thanks!
Bar chart visualization
Right now, I have two groups of data, each group has 5 different measures. I want to compare them based on measurement, but looker only provide comparison by two groups. Say, I have yes and no group, each group has 1/2/3/4/5 type of measurement. I want to compare A1 with B1, but looker only give me A12345 and B12345. How can I change that?
Evaluating one dimension value against another dimension with multiple values
Hi, Here’s my problem: Dimension: Batch Number Options: 1 to n Dimension: Ripeness Options: Good or Spoiled So if all of the apples are good, then good, if one or more are spoiled say spoiled. 1 - apple - spoiled | Spoiled 1 - apple - good | Spoiled 1 - apple - good | Spoiled 2 - apple - good | Good 2 - apple - good | Good 3 - apple - good | Good How can I create the dimension that says Spoiled or Good?
How to display comparison of many entities
Does anyone know of a good way to compare many entities in one visualization? Example: I need to provide users with a way to compare different organizations’ profits over a few years. The idea is to allow them to quickly scan trends across all the organizations and spot which orgs look interesting and should be drilled into. So I’m using an Org dimension, a Year dimension, and a Profits measure. The issue is that there are 20+ Orgs with a wide variance in Profits. When I display as a stacked line chart, the Orgs with extremely high profits force all of the other lines to flatten out, and its impossible to view trends with this many lines. I also thought about doing a pivot table with conditional formatting to show trends over the years for each Org, but conditional formatting doesn’t work on a row by row basis. So that doesn’t actually help with viewing trends within a single Org. My ideal solution would be something like this, I think. But I don’t think that’s possible in Looker (sc
Center Align Linked Image in Dashboard Text Tile
I’m creating a few text tiles on a dashboard that have linked images to other dashboards, but I can’t seem to figure out how to align the image in the center of the tile. it always just comes up left-aligned and looks incredibly funky with the title and subtitle of the tile center-aligned. any ideas Looker community?
Ordering of series different in Look/Tile and Dashboard
I have a Look/Tile with the following legend: The underscore is so that the Older gets to first place (I can’t use secondary pivot to order the pivot unfortunately) But once those tiles are in the dashboard, I see the order changes: Refreshed the page as well as cache but nothing helps. Is the ordering engine different between those two places? The ordering is key here as it’s a stacked area chart. I renamed _Older to .Older but I think it may have highlighted a potential bug
Tooltip stays behind after tile deletion on a dashboard
A little strange behaviour but might be hard to reproduce: I have few tiles on a dashboard. I started deleting them and sometimes the cursor triggers tooltip and somehow there’s not enough time to hide it before I get to the 3 dots and click Delete. The weird behaviour is that the tooltip stays after deletion. It could be that I managed to trigger the tooltip between confirming deletion and the system actually removing it from the board. The problem is that now they will stay here until I reload the page:
