Add table visualisation as drill to donut chart and bar chart
I want to add a table visualisation to my bar chart and donut chart. A simple drill_fields = [x,y,z] did not function for donut chart. It worked for bar chart, but in an unwanted way. The drill was a bar chart as well. I want to see a table visualisation. Is it possible?
"Filtering is not supported on SQL tiles"
Hey there! As the title suggests, I saw the following message while editing filters for a dashboard:“Filtering is not supported on SQL tiles”I honestly have no idea what it is referring to, since I don’t know what SQL tiles are to begin with. Does anyone know what this is? This is not causing any errors whatsoever, it’s just puzzling and I am now intrigued by it! Thanks.
Hello, I am new to Looker and would appreciate if you could help with the following:I have 2 tiles: One of them is a table with the list of info (rows). Another one is bubble chart related to the first tile. When I click on any bubble in the second tile I want the data from the 1st tile related to this bubble appear in a separate visual. Only 2 measures are used in the 2nd tile, no dimension. Thank you!
Alt+Click on Legend No Longer Working
I noticed this morning that the Alt+Click functionality no longer works when interacting with the legend. Previously, this would allow you to quickly toggle individual series on and off or mass select/deselect all series.Hopefully this is a bug and not something that was removed intentionally? This feature was key to the user experience on some of our dashboards
Data from 'Download' doesn't match data sent to visualisation
After a fair amount of work, I managed to use pivots to format my data in such a way that it would be far more efficient for use in my custom visualisation. Custom visualisations receive a JSON-formatted chunk of data from the server, typically organised in rows.Whilst doing this legwork, I tried to see what would come from my efforts by using the ‘Download’ option on the Look, then viewing the resulting JSON. Everything looked fine, with a wonderfully nested structure matching the pivots on the table in the Look UI.However, once I checked to see what my custom visualisation was receiving, I was shocked to discover that that data looked nothing like the downloaded sample; most of the nested structure was absent, replaced with flat row sets with utterly unexpected value naming. Is there any way to get JSON sent to my visualisation that matches the structure shown when i choose to download a sample??
Dashboard Timeframe filter improvement
Hello,I wanted to share a small issue I notice quite often while building dashboard next. The timeframe filter (which looks great) always take into consideration the current day or period selected. This is really annoying because when you don’t have data available for the current day, it shows an empty data point. For that reason, most of the time, I have to revert back to a basic advanced filter when I can select “past 7 complete days” as a default value, which is a shame because the Timeframe filter is really nice and much more user friendly.I think a simple checkbox “include current period” would do the work here :)Antho
Make an element/visual fullscreen
Hi folks,New user so apologies if this has been asked before (although I couldn’t find from a quick search). In Power BI you can select any visual and click ‘focus mode’ to view it in fullscreen. This doesn’t seem to exist in Looker but seems like an obvious feature?I know you can embed / print-mode dashboards, but I want users to be able to right click a chart and view it in fullscreen - is this possible?
Editing Dashboards Bug
Hi, I am using the table visualization with some dashboards. I had to go through and pull the bottom of the table to the bottom so there was no scroll bar and it could be printed on one page. I noticed that if I do it outside of dev mode and then export to pdf the changes do not flow through. It seems like I have to do it both in and out of dev mode for the changes to flow through. It isn’t because I am trying to export right away either, some of these dashboards I had updated a week or two ago and just now noticed they weren’t showing up properly in the pdf. Is there a reason we have to update the dashboard in both dev and out of dev mode for the changes to show up in the pdf file?
Can you set up parent and child looks?
I work in a business that has various teams, which have their own reporting and KPIs, however there is also another team who spans across multiple departments. We are building a summary dashboard that reports KPIs across all the different teams, however instead of maintaining the same changes made to each separate dashboard. Is there a way to create a parent look and a child look, where when a change in visualisation, filter or dimensions is made to the parent look, it passes through to both dashboards? Is this possible in Looker or is the best we can do is create a button linking to each separate KPI dashboard?
Number of total events is multiplied with longer time frame
The number of Total events is growing when I'm looking at a longer time frame on looker studio. Everything is ok in analytics, but Looker studio seems to mess it up. I'm tracking "subscribe"-button clicks (custom events) on a site (GTM->UA->Looker) and I'm getting sensible numbers when I'm looking a timeframe like a week or two. When I'm looking longer timespan, like a month, all numbers are growing, and they are can be 4-fold when I'm looking the whole year. This messes up a lot of my analytics and I don't know where the problem is.More background and detail:I'm working for a news media, and I'd like to know how many subscription-clicks I'm getting for different articles. Every subscription click is firing a custom event in GTM that are tracked through UA. Here's an article that has been published last sunday (there can't be any subscription clicks before that on this article), and it's bringing in good numbers. Let's look at it alone. Total clicks is 46, Daily clicks are 22
Filters Not Populating Suggestions in Dashboard (BigQuery based data)
I am new to Looker.I have a partitioned BigQuery connection to Looker.Due to this there is a required date filter on any query demanded, which prevents the source query for suggestions from functioning. At first I found a work around by using a ‘sql_always_where’ in the explore, but then realized this was generating queries over all the data (which is big) to get suggestions.I recently developed a dashboard from a derived query. At first I hard coded a where condition for the date field limiting it to the past few days, however, the final data would need to be at any time period in history. When I adjusted this date to the data start I realized it was very expensive to run. It needs to be run with different filters by different people so caching/persisting isn’t really an option. To prevent the derived table query from querying over all the data, I followed the ‘Creating dynamic SQL derived tables with LookML and Liquid’ Lab to inject the dates into the derived query. While this works fo
Reporting and Prediction
Hello Team, I need to create a report on looker where the data is as follows Max size(Peta) Size used Timestamp(MM/DD/YY) 2 Petabytes 600 TB 9/1/2016 2:15:06 2 Petabytes 900 TB 9/1/2016 5:15:06 2 Petabytes 1001 TB 7/1/2016 5:15:06 2 Petabytes 1400 TB 7/1/2016 7:15:06 2 Petabytes 1800 TB 5/1/2016 2:15:06 2 Petabytes 1900 TB 5/1/2016 4:15:06 I need to have the daily max value of space taken based on time stamp field for each day and create a report. The x axis should be date and y axis the latest space utilization on that.
Variables Inside Text Boxes
Hello, I’ve recently been asked to develop a dashboard and all went well until I reached a requirement about a dynamic textbox. In a previous dashboarding tool, I was able to create text boxes that were comprised of multiple variables that I could concatenate together. In the backend, these variables would be defined based on the attributes of a site. When I opened up the text box visualization in Looker, I saw that I could enter in markdown formatted text, but it doesn’t appear to allow for variable usage. Am I missing something or is there some sort of work around for this? I know that maybe I could do this using a table or a single object tile (?), but those don’t allow for much formatting. Any suggestions on what I could do here?
How can I dynamically select a graph?
I am able to create a parameter to dynamically select a measure to update in a look.Is it possible to achieve a similar thing but with two different tiles in a dashboard?E.g I have tile 1, tile 2, and tile 3. I have a parameter that updates tile 3 and has two options: tile 1, tile 2. Thanks!
Looker Documentation on "Location" type when Mapping by Country
Where can I find documentation on what Looker expects to see on “Country Names” in order for mapping capabilities to work fully? For example, I have a field “Country Name” which is set as Location type, so looker will recognize as country and map data accordingly. I noticed that an output I had (“Great Britain”) was not recognized, so I had to update it to United Kingdom (this is what Looker labels the country as on a map). I then noticed other idiosyncrasies such as, the Google Map in Looker labels Israel as “Israel”, but my data also lists “Israel” but Looker does not map the data to that country, so I assume Looker is expecting to see something else like possibly “Israel and the State of Palestine”.So ultimately, I’m looking for a document that will tell me assuredly what Country Name the “Location” field type is expecting to see in order to enable correct mappings by country
Histogram - switching between types doesn't reset the settings
I switched my visualisation type to scatter and then back to Simple Histogram. The settings are still shown for the Scatter Histogram including the fields that no longer exist in my query By the way, it’s great that we have it. Thank you Looker Team!
Download Data with table calculation information
Hello Team, I´m kind of new with Looker, I have about 1 month and a half with the platform, so still lot to learn. Well probably some of you already know the asnwer but I´m facing issues trying to download a data, looks like the problem is the custom fields “table calculation” linked to it? Are we able to do that somehow?Thank you in advance!Andree”
